Ericsson’s 5G technology used in the first 5G based self-driving car demonstration in Hungary

ZALAEGERSZEG, Hungary, 28-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — ZalaZone, located in the city of Zalaegerszeg in Hungary, is a 5G-based self-driving vehicle test track that has just been officially opened on May 20, 2019. The ZalaZone test track relies on an advanced 5G technology from Ericsson, which is installed on an existing radio tower operated by Magyar Telekom.

The opening ceremony was attended by Viktor Orbán, Hungarian Prime Minister, and the country’s Minister for Innovation and Technology László Palkovic.

Self-driving cars using the 5G mobile network for the first time in Hungary were demonstrated to the attendees of the opening ceremony.

The ZalaZone test track in Zalaegerszeg boasts 2-kilometer handling course that includes a multi-surface braking platform and multiple test track modules for everything from highway roads and bad rural roads to a water basin and offers unique testing opportunity for car manufacturers in Europe that need the 5G network infrastructure, which is installed on the test track.

Engineers from Ericsson, Magyar Telekom and T-Systems have all worked together to construct the test environment at the ZalaZone test track.

The 5G’s high-capacity and low-latency characteristics are of great importance to future transport solutions.

Commenting on the 5G used on the ZalaZone test track, Claes Herlitz, Head of Global Automotive Services at Ericsson, said:

“Right now, the car of the future is just on a practice lap. 5G will give us the green flag to speed up innovation. The millisecond latency of 5G will enable workloads to be shifted, balancing what work gets done in the car, and what gets done in the cloud. This makes access to data faster and allows us to transform onboard architecture of vehicles.”

Ericsson Hungary’s Country Manager Gábor Éry went further to explain that the ZalaZone test track experience shows how various industries and academic institutions can work together to push the boundaries of what can be achieved using 5G technology.

Commenting further, Gábor, said:

“Ericsson is very proud to have contributed to the first 5G technology-based self-driving car demonstration in Hungary with the company’s leading 5G technology. This project is a very good example of the close collaboration of various industries, allowing for the efficient utilization of the benefits and opportunities provided by 5G technology.”

Milestone: 10 million flying hours in nearly 5 million flights for the ultra-reliable long distance business aircraft engine – the Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8

Milestone: 10 million flying hours in nearly 5 million flights for the ultra-reliable long distance business aircraft engine – the Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8

LONDON, 17-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Rolls-Royce has just announced its Tay 611-8 engine has recently reached to 10 million flying hours milestone in after having had nearly 5 million flights. The engine was originally launched in 1987 and is powering range of Gulfstream’s large-cabin business aircraft as the Gulfstream GIV, GIV-SP, G300 and G400. Outstanding dependability, efficiency and low noise generation have earned a great reputation for the Rolls-Royce’s Tay 611-8 engine.

Tay 611-8’s incredible performance helped Gulfstream GIV to revolutionise the business aviation market with its high cruising speed and the 4,300 nautical miles intercontinental range.

The Tay 611-8 engine has broken many records for speed and range over the past 30 years. Stepping on these achievements the Tay 611-8C engine, Tay 611-8 successor, is today powering the Gulfstream G350 and G450.

As of today, there are more than 1,700 Tay 611-8 and Tay 611-8C engines in service. Rolls-Royce’s market leading CorporateCare® supports many of them.

The deal for the first ever Tay order contract, made by then the company’s Managing Director Sir Ralph Robins and Gulfstream’s founder Allen Paulson is part of the aviation history. Officially signed in March 1983, the story goes that in December 1982 the basic details such as engine price, quantity, payment terms, etc., have been written on a napkin in less than 10 minutes by Sir Ralph Robins.

Commenting on the 10 million flying hours milestone, Dirk Geisinger, Director Business Aviation, Rolls-Royce, said:

“Reaching 10 million flying hours is an impressive milestone and we are very proud of this achievement. With its legendary reliability the Tay 611-8 became the benchmark for ultra-reliable long distance business aircraft and perfectly illustrates why Rolls-Royce is the leading engine manufacturer in Business Aviation. The Tay family with its proven performance has been very successful for us and has propelled our market leadership in this sector. Combining this engine with our latest aftermarket programme CorporateCare Enhanced raises the bar for the whole industry by introducing uncapped troubleshooting, coverage for mobile repair team travel costs and nacelle coverage on later engine models.”

Geisinger added further:

“CorporateCare Enhanced provides our customers with a global support infrastructure which includes Engine Health Monitoring, a worldwide network of Authorised Service Centres and globally distributed spare parts and engines, all managed by our dedicated 24/7 Business Aircraft Availability Centre. Our customers benefit directly from this investment in proactive care, an in most cases are prevented from missing a planned trip.”

One of the largest European telematics providers joins Michelin Group

One of the largest European telematics providers joins Michelin Group

Clermont-Ferrand, France, 17-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Michelin signed an agreement to acquire the entire share capital of Masternaut, one of the largest European telematics providers. The acquisition is in line with the Group’s development strategy in the Services & Solutions business and leveraging the experience it has gained following the Sascar and NexTraq acquisitions in America.

Masternaut provides a technical platform equipped with the latest technology. The company offers on-board telematics solutions to optimize vehicle fleet management and monitoring. Masternaut manages over 220,000 mostly light utility vehicles under contract. It operates mainly in France and the United Kingdom. The transaction has been made on the basis of 8 times 2018 Ebitda before synergies.

The acquisition will speed up the development of Michelin‘s Services & Solutions business for light vehicles and support the booming fleet market. The deal will also enable Masternaut to roll out its offering across the whole of Europe by taking advantage of the Michelin network’s geographical coverage. The acquisition will also increase the volume of data captured, allowing Michelin to offer its customers the best solutions, improve product performance and develop its data science deployments, such as predictive maintenance.

Florent Menegaux, Managing General Partner, comments: “Michelin is consolidating its expertise in telematics, enabling us to optimize customer mobility and respond to the needs of a changing market. Masternaut represents a further step in the expansion of our Services & Solutions business, especially in Europe and for light vehicle fleets.”

Jaguar Land Rover prepares tomorrow’s engineers for the self-driving future through its Land Rover 4×4 in Schools programme

WHITLEY, 16-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Jaguar Land Rover is looking to inspire the next generation of software coders and talents with its Land Rover 4×4 In Schools programme. Land Rover 4×4 in Schools programme gives tomorrow’s engineers the chance to learn to code self-driving vehicles of the future today.

Launched in 2006 in UK the Land Rover 4×4 in Schools Technology Challenge was taken globally in 2015 and is now active in 20 countries. Since its inception, more than 15,000 young people have joined the programme. The challenge has inspired many students in pursuing STEM careers in the automotive industry including former participants who have later on joined Jaguar Land Rover as undergraduates and apprentices.

Jaguar Land Rover’s Land Rover 4×4 in Schools programme helped the company reach more than four million young people since 2000. In the 2019’s Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Technology Challenge world finals some 110 students from 14 countries have qualified. This year’s world finals were held at the University of Warwick where the NewGen Motors team from Greece won the trophy following two intensive days of competition.

According to Arm an estimated one billion lines of computer code is needed for self-driving cars, as compared to just the 145,000 lines required by NASA to land Apollo 11 on the moon in 1969 (LOC for Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC)).

Land Rover 4×4 In Schools programme is aimed at inspiring the next generation of software engineers in order to meet the growing need for more coders to deliver these future autonomous and connected vehicles.

During this year’s Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Technology Challenge world finals talented teenagers have written 200 lines of code in just 30 minutes, to successfully navigate a scale model Range Rover Evoque around a 5.7-meter circuit.

According to David Lakin, who is head of education from the IET, UK alone will require more than 1 million software engineers to fill the growing demand for skills like coding, software engineering or electronics. Here is what he said:

“We’re in the midst of a digital skills shortage – the UK alone requires more than 1 million software engineers to fill the growing demand for roles requiring a knowledge of coding, software engineering or electronics. Digital skills are vital to the economy, which is why the IET is proud to support initiatives like the Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Technology Challenge to ensure we inspire, inform and develop future engineers and encourage diversity across STEM subjects from a young age. If we are to safeguard jobs for the next generation, we must equip the workforce of the future with the skills they will need to engineer a better world.”

According to Evans Data Corporation there were 23 million software developers worldwide as of 2018 and this number is expected to to grow to 27.7 million by 2023. Furthermore, research from the World Economic Forum predicts some 65% of today’s students will end up working in jobs that don’t currently exist.

That’s why, Jaguar Land Rover is planning this year to launch a new Digital Skills Apprenticeship programme aimed at attracting the best computer engineers to help code its next-generation electric, connected and autonomous vehicles and support the factories of the future.

According to Nick Rogers, Executive Director, Product Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, the rapidly changing automotive industry sees the computer engineering and software skills as more important than ever. He commented further:

“Computer engineering and software skills are more important than ever in the rapidly changing automotive industry, and that will only increase as we see more autonomous, connected and electric vehicles on the roads. The UK will need 1.2 million more people with specialist digital skills by 2022, and as a technology company, it’s our job to help inspire and develop the next generation of technically curious and pioneering digital engineers. The Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Technology Challenge is just one of the ways we are doing this, as well as our new Digital Skills Apprenticeship programme we are launching this year.”

Mark Wemyss-Holdenformer, Teacher and Curriculum Content Developer:

“Coding is high on the agenda across industry and teachers do a fantastic job delivering the curriculum, but schools have competing priorities and are hamstrung by limited budgets and time. The private sector, and programmes like Land Rover 4×4 In Schools, have a real opportunity to bridge the gap between what learners enjoy studying and how that translates into a future career.”

Jaguar Land Rover is heavily investing in Global Pioneering Hubs around the world including centers already active in Shannon, Republic of Ireland; Budapest, Hungary and Portland, in the United States in order to maintain its leadership in the Autonomous, Connected, Electric and Shared (ACES) mobility services.

John Cormican, General Manager for Vehicle Engineering, Shannon:

“Shannon has an important role to play in realising the company’s vision for autonomous and connected vehicles, but we can not deliver this future without the very best minds – individuals who could write the next chapter for Jaguar Land Rover. It’s fantastic to see the company taking such an innovative approach towards investing in the next generation.”

EU on track to launch its most ambitious ever European research and innovation programme in 2021

EU on track to launch its most ambitious ever European research and innovation programme in 2021

BRUSSELS, 20-Mar-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — EU institutions have just reached to partial political agreement on Horizon Europe. Horizon Europe is the future EU research and innovation programme and aims at facilitating the investment in research and innovation to maintain and improve the European way of life. The provisional agreement is subject to formal approval by the European Parliament and the Council.

Horizon Europe’s budgetary aspects are part of the overall agreement on the EU’s next long-term budget, proposed by the Commission last year.

The proposed budget by the Commission for the next research framework funding programme (2021-2027) is €100 billion.

Further discussions are yet to be made on the provisions on international association agreements as well as on potential synergies with other future EU programmes and policies depending on the progress made with other sectoral proposals within the EU’s long-term budget.

The Juncker Commission has worked on new level of ambition and commitment aimed at deepening Europe’s innovation capability that can provide lasting prosperity and preserve the EU global competitiveness.

The Horizon Europe programme was originally proposed by the Commission in June 2018 as part of the EU-long-term-budget for the years 2021-2027. Horizon Europe is in fact the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever and aim at keeping the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation.

Commissioner Carlos Moedas, responsible for Research, Science, and Innovation:

”I warmly welcome this agreement with the strong support for the new European Innovation Council and our mission driven research agendas. We are now on track to launch the most ambitious ever European research and innovation programme in 2021, shaping the future for a strong, sustainable and competitive European economy and benefiting all regions in Europe.”

Horizon Europe will step on Horizon 2020’s achievements and success and will continue to drive scientific excellence through the European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships and exchanges. The Horizon Europe programme will benefit from the scientific advice, technical support and dedicated research of the Horizon Europe, which is the Commission’s science and knowledge service.

The European Innovation Council (EIC), which currently runs in a pilot phase, will be introduced as part of the new Horizon Europe programme, will bring bring disruptive and breakthrough innovations from lab to market application, and help start-ups and SMEs scale up their ideas. Under the EIC, innovators will receive direct support through two main funding instruments, one for early stages and the other for development and market deployment. The European Innovation Council (EIC) will be complementary to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

The European Commission will now start preparing Horizon Europe’s implementation in order to have the first draft work programmes published in time for the programme’s launch on 1 January 2021.

Europe, relying on only 7% of the world’s population, produces one third of all the high-quality scientific publications and holds a world leading position in the pharmaceuticals, chemicals, mechanical engineering and fashion as well as accounts for 20% of global R&D investment.

Funding from the EU helped teams across countries and scientific disciplines to work together and make unthinkable discoveries, making Europe a world-class leader in research and innovation.

While inheriting the tested funding rules and procedures of Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe is optimised to maximise its impact, its relevance to society and its potential for breakthrough innovation.

Horizon Europe is a crucial part of the implementation of “A renewed European Agenda for Research and Innovation – Europe’s chance to shape its future“. This agenda highlighted the steps needed to ensure Europe’s global competitiveness and was discussed at the EU Leaders’ meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria in May 2018.

21st Technical Congress in Berlin: artificial intelligence key for connected and automated driving

21st Technical Congress in Berlin: artificial intelligence key for connected and automated driving

BERLIN, 21-Mar-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — High-level stakeholders from the industry and politics comment and share their views on mobility, transport, logistics and production, in both plenary and specific technical sessions during the second day of 21st Technical Congress in Berlin. The gathering is organized by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

Key topics discussed were artificial intelligence (AI) and and how it contributes to automated driving, world trade, commercial vehicles and future production, among others. Brexit remains major topic as well as the transport of tomorrow and how is digitization changing production.

According to VDA Managing Director Dr. Joachim Damasky the artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a very important role in automated driving. Commenting on connected and automated driving, Dr. Andree Hohm, Director Driverless Mobility at Continental Teves AG & Co. oHG, finds the reliable detection of the vehicle’s environment to be a key foundation for automated driving. Alexander Kraus from TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH thinks simulations and data-based methods must be integrated during vehicle development and enshrined in global standards. Furthermore, artificial intelligence (AI) and generating knowledge from data are the drivers of the fourth industrial revolution, according to Ulrich Schrickel from Robert Bosch GmbH.

Commentaries made by key stakeholders during the second day of the congress.

Dr. Joachim Damasky, VDA Managing Director:

“Automation and connectivity are two of the central drivers of innovation in the automotive industry. AI is also a deciding factor when it comes to deploying connected and automated vehicles in highly complex traffic situations. AI will be essential for realizing ‘Vision Zero’, that is, a future without accidents. For this vision to become reality, AI systems must evaluate digitized data. The applications become better, the more data they can evaluate.”

Dr. Damasky underlined the fact that manufacturers and suppliers drive forward the development of AI systems with the required caution.

“AI applications do not learn in an uncontrolled way. Instead the algorithm is trained because the applications will be used in safety-relevant parts of the vehicle. Moreover, they must satisfy the international regulations for approving technical vehicle systems. The German automotive industry sees huge opportunities in AI technology and is driving its development forward with care.”

Dr. Andree Hohm, Director Driverless Mobility at Continental Teves AG & Co. oHG:

“Reliable detection of the vehicle’s environment is a key foundation for automated driving. Technology, type approval and acceptance are inextricably intertwined. Broad acceptance demands that people can trust the technology and this makes riding in a driverless car as normal as riding in a driverless elevator.”

Alexander Kraus, Senior Vice President Business Unit Automotive, TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH:

“Automated and connected vehicles mean that the safety checks have to be adjusted. We are working on adapting the testing methods to take account of new technological challenges and furthering their development. For this, simulations and data-based methods already have to be integrated during vehicle development and enshrined in global standards. And in the future, after market launch we will have to consider software updates and make a shift from periodic servicing to continuous servicing.”

Thorsten Freund, Vice President Sales & Services Automotive at Siemens Industry Software GmbH:

“Our slogan is ‘Digitization path – smart and fast from today into your digitization of tomorrow,’ as we present our cutting-edge solutions for comprehensive digitization of product development and production processes in the automotive industry. We are not only using expert solutions to connect data models in the various realms of mechanics, electronics, software and automation, but we also provide the necessary IT architectures such as micro services. So we are ready to move with you into an agile world of tomorrow’s mobility. How ready are you?”

Ulrich Schrickel, Executive Vice President of Robert Bosch GmbH:

“Artificial intelligence (AI) and generating knowledge from data are the drivers of the fourth industrial revolution. Today we are challenged by the complex and heterogeneous data architecture. Our vision is therefore to have orchestrated production ecosystems: data standards will enable efficient data analyses. Homogeneous platforms will share knowledge gained and facilitate AI. Automation will relieve the burdens on employees and allow them to obtain further training.”

Prof. Peter Gutzmer, Deputy CEO and Chief Technology Officer at Schaeffler AG:

“The current trends are changing mobility demands and require new solutions. Schaeffler is actively shaping the change with its technologies. As a partner in the mobility industry we are developing new system solutions such as the Schaeffler Mover and the Bio-Hybrid for series production. Parallel to that, we are concentrating on fully electric powertrains, which offer the greatest growth potential. Agility and innovations ensure sustainable success. That means both developing what is already tried and tested, and breaking into new fields.”

Continental’s powertrain business now Vitesco Technologies; partial IPO planned for the 2H 2019

Continental’s powertrain business now Vitesco Technologies; partial IPO planned for the 2H 2019

Vitesco Technologies: Distinct focus on electric drives together with further optimization of internal combustion engines aimed at halving CO2 emissions by 2030

REGENSBURG, 1-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental has just announced that its powertrain business has become an independent entity and will trade under the name of “Vitesco Technologies” as the introduction of the new name is scheduled to happen during the second half of 2019. The unit is the first part of the group that has completed its realignment. The new entity’s management team has fully been assembled and is in place since April 1, 2019.

Establishing its powertrain activities as an independent group of legal entities is part of Continental’s far-reaching organizational realignment in response to the profound changes in the automotive industry. Furthermore, rapid changes that are expected to occur in the powertrain industry over the next few years have also played their role into the move of having the powertrain unit transformed. Government targets for emission limits will largely determine the way the powertrain market evolves ahead.

The reorganisation of the division has taken place as planned at the start of 2019. The new company’s management team, led by Andreas Wolf, is in active preparations for the planned partial IPO, with further details likely to be made available to the capital market in the second half of 2019 while the new company could begin trading in 2020.

Commenting on the Powertrain transformation, Andreas Wolf who will be the CEO of the newly established Vitesco Technologies, said:

“We completed the transformation of Powertrain into an independent group of legal entities in record time. We could not have done this without the support of our people. The fact that over 99 percent of our employees moved to the new company demonstrates their confidence in the path that we have chosen to follow. The decision to become an independent business and the preparations for the partial IPO clearly show that we are both willing and able to change. These qualities will provide us with a competitive advantage.”

Andreas Wolf commented further on the Government regulations:

“The pace of regulation varies from one region to another. This calls for a great deal of flexibility on the part of the industry. As an independent company, we have more freedom as a business to react quickly and individually to the many different requirements.”

What’s in the name

“Vitesco” comes from vita, which is the Latin word for “life”, building on the image of energy, speed and agility while the “Technologies”, which is in the second part of the name, highlights the company’s ambition to be a supplier of innovative, groundbreaking technologies, systems and services.

Leader in powertrain electrification technology with strong market positions

The business areas of Vitesco Technologies will be continuously and systematically developed and improved to meet the future requirements of the market and society, specifically when it comes to local and global emission targets.

Vitesco Technologies will include within the scope of its activities all future business that involves hybrid and electric drive systems as well as all current battery activities in addition to the combustion engine business.

Continental’s powertrain business, which will from now own be Vitesco Technologies, is a longstanding technology leader in the field of powertrain electrification. Few system suppliers in the industry are capable of offering full electrification of the powertrain from a single source and one of them is Vitesco Technologies. Starting from the 48-volt system and integrated hybrid solutions for transmission systems and axles to fully electric drives that are combined with highly efficient power and charging electronics up to a battery management system that is optimized through intelligent energy and thermal management.

The electric powertrain in the Jaguar I-PACE, which was voted European Car of the Year 2019, relies on innovative power electronics from Continental Powertrain.

Continental Powertrain (Vitesco Technologies) order book stands at approximately €11 billion in 2018, and out of it around €2 billion was attributable to the electric mobility segment.

Andreas Wolf on the business of Continental Powertrain (Vitesco Technologies):

“We are starting from a good position and are confident that the realignment will allow us to build strongly on this position. We plan to maintain an excellent range of products for a wide mix of drive technologies going forward. While the main focus will be on electrification, our intention is to cover everything from electrified internal combustion engines to full-battery electric and fuel-cell drives, as well as synthetic fuels. The reason for offering such a wide range of systems is to cater to the diversity of the markets and the different rates at which they are evolving, and the highly individual usage patterns of car drivers around the world.”

“Powertrain already enables extremely eco-friendly conventional drives. In both gasoline and diesel vehicles, our technologies deliver emission values significantly below the relevant limits. In the medium term, our comprehensive support for mild and full hybrid solutions will help to optimize the high-volume car market.”

“And looking ahead to the long-term need for zero-carbon mobility, we are already developing next-generation electric drives and laying the groundwork for carbon-neutral, hydrogen-based fuels for use either in fuel cells or in the form of synthetic fuels for combustion engines.”

“Through electrification and the optimization of internal combustion engines, we want to help achieve a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.”

Andreas Wolf

Continental’s powertrain division has been under the lead of Andreas Wolf, 58, since October 2018. Wolf has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the new entity following the change of the business into the new corporate setup on January 1, 2019.

Andreas Wolf is coming from the Body & Security business unit at Continental’s Interior division where he served as its head since 2007.

Under Wolf’s leadership, the Body & Security business unit trebled its sales, exceeded its break-even point and continually achieved attractive profit margins.

Werner Volz and Ingo Holstein

Werner Volz and Ingo Holstein have both been with Continental on leadership roles for many years. Werner Volz will be the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the new entity. He served as head of Finance and Controlling in the Chassis & Safety division from 2008 and had a significant role in the restructuring of the division during the financial crisis of 2008/2009, as well as in the successful growth management of the driver assistance systems business.

Ingo Holstein has been appointed Chief Human Relations Officer (CHRO) of the powertrain business (since January 2019). Previously, he was the head of Human Relations for the Tire division since 2010. Holstein has extensive expertise in shaping businesses through HR work, as well as in management guidance and development.

Engine & Drivetrain Systems (E&DS), Powertrain Components (PTC), Hybrid & Electric Vehicle (HEV)

The newly established Vitesco Technologies will have three business areas that will operate economically independent. In order to strengthen their portfolio and boost their performance, the former Engine Systems and Transmission units have now been merged to create a new “Engine & Drivetrain Systems” (E&DS) business area. The E&DS portfolio will range from engine and transmission control units to injection systems, turbochargers and exhaust gas aftertreatment. The head of the E&DS will be Wolfgang Breuer.

The former Sensors & Actuators and Fuel & Exhaust Management units have also been transformed to form the new Powertrain Components (PTC) business area. The PTC portfolio includes fuel delivery modules, catalytic converters and SCR dosing control units, as well as sensors and actuators for all types of vehicle and drive system. Klaus Hau will lead the Powertrain Components (PTC) business area.

There will be no changes to the Hybrid & Electric Vehicle (HEV) business area as a strategic growth area. Under the HEV unit are all the main components for drivetrain electrification in hybrid and electric vehicles. The Hybrid & Electric Vehicle (HEV) business will be under the leadership of Thomas Stierle.

Certain central functions, previously handled at group level, have also been affected by the structural changes. The Powertrain business has established a number of those functions as a part of the organizationally independent Vitesco Technologies. As part of the new organisation, one of the most important will be the new Operations unit, which will be responsible for all production and logistics functions. It will provide support to the global production facilities, which are now operated by Vitesco Technologies. The company will also have its own Sales & Marketing, IT and Quality & Environment functions.

All the major OEMs are clients of the Continental’s Powertrain business. Vitesco Technologies will run over 50 production and development facilities across all the regional markets and will employ some 42,000 people worldwide. The Powertrain business (Vitesco Technologies) will remain under the overall stewardship of its head office in Regensburg, a Bavarian city in southeast Germany.
