Fleet of Kia Vehicles Utilized to Teach Teens and Their Parents Responsible Driving HabitsTeens who graduate from B.R.A.K.E.S. are 64 percent less likely to be in a crash in their first three years of driving Kia Soul, Forte and Rio models used for hands-on instructionKia Motors America and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe) are expanding the number of free defensive driving classes offered in the Midwest. Working with B.R.A.K.E.S., Kia aims to reduce the high rate of teens involved in motor vehicle crashes. B.R.A.K.E.S. has provided training for more than 30,000 teens and their parents nationwide since the program was founded in 2008. Kia Motors Corporation announced its August 2018 global sales figures for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles, recording a total of 223,648 units sold, a slight decrease from 2017. Overseas sales declined 2.0% compared to the previous year, posting 179,448 units. Strong sales of RV continued despite the sales decline. The Sportage saw sales rise more than 16 percent over last August with 37,254 total units, setting a record fifth straight month of double digit sales growth. Sales in Korea totaled 44,200 units, representing an increase of 7.7% year on year. The K900 continued to have a strong month, passing the 1,000 unit mark for the fifth consecutive month. Kia’s best-selling model in global markets during August 2018 was the Sportage compact SUV with 41,040 units sold. Overseas sales declined 1.9% compared to the previous year, posting 197,908 units. Strong sales of RV continued despite the sales decline. The Sportage saw sales rise more than 15 percent in comparison with September 2017, setting a record sixth straight month of double digit sales growth. Sales in Korea totaled 35,800 units, representing a decline of 25.4% year on year. One of the main reasons for the drop in YoY sales was reduced working days arising from the timing difference of the Korean Thanksgiving Day ‘Chuseok’, which was in October last year compared to September this year.
