War, pandemic and their consequences present us with great challenges
Shortages in the supply of gas and raw materials, rising energy prices, the global consequences of the corona pandemic and interrupted supply chains are particularly affecting the industrialized country of Germany. They can lead to serious economic losses and cause deep social conflicts. Russia’s attack on Ukraine also causes enormous economic challenges. There is a risk of a sustained weakening of prosperity in our society. Russia’s strategy also aims to create fear and create space for populism. This is intended to limit our political options for action. We want to counter this together.
Peace, freedom, democracy need a strong socio-ecological market economy
Industrial companies and employees are at the same time in the middle of the epochal transformation to achieve CO2 neutrality and digitization (twin transition). On the one hand, this poses massive challenges for industry, on the other hand, there are opportunities for companies and employees. To do this, we must secure the future of the industrial value-added networks in our country here and now, shape their future and strengthen the foundations for a socio-ecological market economy. This is our common interest, because industry in our country is a crucial foundation for employment, progress and prosperity. And that to a greater extent than in many comparable countries. We are convinced that ecological responsibility, social justice, stable finances, economic success and a successful transformation with the corresponding investments in a successful, sustainable industry are only conceivable together. It is crucial that we maintain social cohesion and develop common guiding principles.
Let’s talk
Social cohesion and dialogue are our common response to fueled fears and populism. We will start a dialogue initiative in the Alliance for the Future of Industry. The basis is our suggestions “Shape and secure the future of industry now”. The aim is to discuss the importance and perspectives of industrial value creation and the challenges of the transformation in dialogue and to identify suitable measures for the successful design of the transformation process. In autumn 2022 we want to conduct a lively dialogue with state and local politicians, other actors in the regions, for example from social and environmental associations, as well as science and interested citizens. As part of the alliance’s industry conference on November 29, we will present the results and coordinate further action.
