SAIC-GM-Wuling Expands Electric Vehicle Lineup with Wuling Asta Hybrid

SHANGHAI – SAIC-GM-Wuling today launched its first hybrid model for China, the Wuling Asta hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). It represents the start of expansion of the joint venture’s new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio.
Based on the Wuling Asta that went on sale last September, the Asta HEV will appeal to China’s new generation of SUV and NEV buyers who are looking for a do-it-all hybrid. Two variants are available for RMB 99,800 and RMB 109,800.
The Asta HEV has an electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and a dedicated 2.0L engine. They are complemented by an electric motor that generates 320 Nm of maximum torque and a high-performance battery that produces 100 kW of maximum power.
The powertrain combination enables 0-60 km/h acceleration in a speedy 3.2 seconds. It has a driving range of more than 1,100 km, yet its fuel consumption is as low as 4.6 liters/100 km in city driving.
The Asta HEV carries forward the Asta’s “dynamic wing aesthetics” design concept, highlighted by LED automatic headlights and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Its generous 2,750-mm wheelbase supports a spacious interior.
Among the premium features are the Ling OS connectivity system, a 10.25-inch display in the center console, a 360-degree HD full-mode camera, Automatic Parking Assist and an optional large panoramic sunroof. About two-thirds of the Asta HEV’s body consists of high-strength steel, for a high level of safety.
SAIC-GM-Wuling recently celebrated cumulative sales of 1 million electric vehicles in China since it introduced its first electrified model in 2017. It plans to continue expanding the lineup, including the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
