ACI: Second-hand cars still minus in August with the decrease in radiation (-25.3%) the number of vehicles in circulation is growing.

Yet another minus sign in August for the second-hand four-wheeler market. The transfer of ownership of the cars, net of mini-revolutions (temporary transfers in the name of the dealership pending resale to the end customer) resulted in a drop of 5.7% compared to August 2021. For every 100 new cars, they were sold 240 used in August and 203 in the first eight months of the year. The four second-hand wheels are therefore more than double those purchased on the new market.

As far as engines are concerned, in the second-hand market in August it is always traditional fuel systems (diesel and petrol) that firmly maintain the top positions, while the share of gasoline hybrid cars, which excel on the new market with a share monthly of 35.3%, for used vehicles they slightly exceed 3%. The share of second-hand electricity increased from 0.2% in August 2021 to 0.5% in August 2022. Finally, in mini-passes, diesel cars are confirmed at the top of the rankings (53.6% share in August 2022, down compared to August 2021, when it was 56.9%), while the incidence of petrol hybrids reaches 4.6%.

On the contrary, positive results for the transfer of ownership of motorcycles which, net of mini-revolutions, in August recorded an increase of 1.4% compared to the same month in 2021.

In total, in the first eight months of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021, net transfers of ownership recorded declines of 11.3% for cars, 6.2% for motorcycles and 9.3% for all vehicles .

The data are reported in the latest monthly bulletin “Auto-Trend”, the statistical analysis carried out by the Automobile Club of Italy on the PRA data, available on the website www.aci.it.

The growth of the Italian fleet continued in August, fueled by the strongly negative results recorded on the radiation front. Car radiations showed a 25.3% drop compared to August 2021, with just 61,790 cases: the lowest number ever for the month of August. The unit monthly replacement rate therefore stood at 0.86 (86 of every 100 new cars were canceled), falling overall to 0.81 in the first eight months of the year. Monthly contraction also for motorcycle radiation, with a negative change of 7.4% in August compared to the same month in 2021.

From January to August 2022 compared to the same period of 2021, the radiation has filed decreases of 30.3% for cars, 2.8% for motorcycles and 27.8% for all vehicles.
