LONDON (30th September 2022) – Nissan is proud to continue their support of the LQBTQ+ Community as part of their partnership with the TSC London Marathon. For the second year, Nissan will be creating an inclusive party atmosphere in its Cheer Zone at the heart of the “Rainbow Row”, to encourage runners as they reach the final stretch.
As part of the celebrations, the Nissan Cheer Zone will provide a lively atmosphere for spectators and athletes with performances from Drag Queens and DJs, including Nissan Diversity and Inclusion Ambassador and Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts. The Cheer Zone will be powered exclusively by a Nissan LEAF. Nissan is proud to be collaborating with Pride 365 and Jeremy Joseph, owner of G-A-Y and Heaven nightclubs in London, to put on a fantastic experience for all on the day.
Runners and supporters will find the Cheer Zone in Rainbow Row at miles 14 and 21, located at the junction of Butcher Row and The Highway.
Nic Thomas, Marketing Director at Nissan commented, “I’m delighted that once again Nissan is bringing to life its philosophy of zero emissions and zero inequality at the TCS London Marathon. In addition to helping deliver a cleaner event by providing electrified support vehicles, including the 100% electric Nissan ARIYA as official lead vehicle, we’ll be championing inclusivity at the event in our fantastic LGBTQ+ Cheer Zone. The Cheer Zone is just one way we’re enacting our commitment to help improve the lives of people from underrepresented communities through the Nissan Possibilities Project. It will provide a great atmosphere for cheering on participants on race day, so come and join us!”
Nissan cemented its commitment to the LGBTQ+ community last year, becoming Pride365 certified with a pledge to improve inclusivity in its workplace and communities.
Jack Mizel, Pride 365’s CEO, commented, “Pride 365 are delighted to see our partner Nissan once again demonstrating its authentic commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. Rainbow Row and the Nissan Cheer Zone are great examples of celebrating with the LGBTQ+ community outside of Pride month. For Nissan, authenticity is 365 days a year.”
About the Nissan Possibilities ProjectThe Nissan Possibilities Project is Nissan’s long-term CSR initiative, stemming from a core belief in a world with zero emissions and zero inequalities. The project uses Nissan’s technologies, resources and expertise to create more opportunities for people from underrepresented communities, with a specific focus on supporting disability and LGBTQ+ initiatives. Nissan works with two key charities as part of the project:
Sported UK, with whom Nissan are working to increase participation and accessibility in sport for young people with disabilities
The Richard Whitehead Foundation, with whom Nissan are working to provide access to running prosthetics for young people with disabilities
Through the project, Nissan also sponsors both the London Marathon and The Great Run Series, bringing its Zero Emissions and Zero Inequality philosophy to these mass participation running events. Nissan electrifies the events with zero emissions support vehicles and creates more inclusive opportunities for runners and supporters with Cheer Zones celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, and race places donated to charity partners to enable great participation from under-represented groups.
