ACI Space 2.0 wins the SMAU 2022 Innovation Award

14.10.2022

Francesca Zampa ((ACI Digital Innovation Manager): “We have dismantled and reassembled an already innovative application to make ACI mobile services even more efficient, easy to access and use”

A successful application – over 2 million downloads and more than 400 thousand sessions per month – redesigned and made even more advanced and efficient, thanks to crowd-testing, design thinking, Lean methodology and co-creation, just three months after release ( July 2022), wins the SMAU 2022 Innovation Award.

We are talking about ACI Space 2.0, from whose home page – redesigned in three different “moods”: public services (“My vehicles”), assistance to motorists (“Driving”), members and sporting events (“With the Club”) – thanks to the map, users can find car parks, petrol stations with updated prices and the nearest ACI offices.

From the “My vehicles” section, they have access to all information about their car, from road tax to digital ownership attestation.

“With the Club” allows you to easily request services and roadside assistance, discover the advantages offered by ACI and the various membership formulas, while – sports enthusiasts and drivers – find out about the calendar of all the car races on the national territory.

“In the digital field – underlined Francesca Zampa – everything evolves very quickly and ACI has always acted in the belief that making innovation means anticipating, not following changes. There are three principles adopted by ACI’s Office for Digital Transition and Innovation: move immediately, make mistakes quickly – to be able to correct the shot immediately – and listen well, that is, deal with the outside world. And this prestigious award tells us that we are moving on the right path ”.

New approach: from design thinking to co-creation

“The new app – explained the ACI Digital Innovation Manager – was created to improve the user experience, best represent the three areas of ACI’s activity (public, institutional, associative), make access to services easier and avoid ‘technological obsolescence of the infrastructure ”.

To redesign the app, ACI adopted Lean methodologies, creating several MVPs with the aim of validating the various intermediate developments, made use of design thinking tools, collaborated with a crowd-testing company, which in the initial phases collected the opinions of over 200 external users on the app, carried out a co-creation activity, involving family and friends, internal resources and external partners.

The SCRUM framework was used for the development phase. The process started in October 2021. It was an interdisciplinary work, conducted with ACI Informatica, the in-house company that deals with ACI’s technology products, internal and external teams, who together “disassembled and reassembled” the app, redesigning it according to different logics.
