This year, the Targa Florio – “A Cursa”, the oldest car race in the world – honored the memory of Peppino Impastato, a journalist who was a victim of the mafia, by naming the last stage “100 Passi Trophy”.

“Palermo had moments of great exaltation with the Targa Florio and we are here to honor this story – declared President Sticchi Damiani – but we cannot forget other pages, terrible and very painful, lived by this city and this territory”.

For this reason, on the thirtieth anniversary of the Capaci massacre, the Targa Florio paid tribute to the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Francesca Morvillo (Falcone’s wife) and to the escort agents – Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro – with a stop at the “Giardino della memory ”, dedicated to the victims of the massacre of 23 May 1992 and to all the victims of the mafia.
