Fugitive the Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn is Netflix’s latest biographical documentary about the legendary man who turned the fate of two of the biggest automobile companies- Renault and Nissan. From a businessman to a world-renowned fugitive, this is a film that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Directed by Lucy Blakstad, the docuseries interviews various people related to Carlos Ghosn and those who saw his surprise and later his downfall. The documentary closely looks at what went wrong and the fatal mistakes made by the mogul that brought forth his current condition. However, the biography does not have an interview with the man himself as he refused to be part of this film.
Netflix’s synopsis of the film reads:
How does one go from being a car mogul to fleeing Japan in a flight case? The tale of Carlos Ghosn is the stuff of legend – and it’s 100 percent true.
-Fugitive the Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn Review contains No spoilers-
Fugitive the Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn starts off with reports about the escape of the former chairman of Renault and Nissan from Japan where his trial is yet to be held. Scenes of his escape play with the reports playing in different languages, followed by the statements made by Ghosn’s close PR advisers and former employees.
And with this, the story of Carlos Ghosn begins and we are set for a documentary that captures our attention with what went on almost a decade back. The documentary follows his journey as he revived the now-top automobile companies while facing the contempt of the employees who were hurt by him.

However, this did not stop the man as he proved his decisions to be right. The director has done a good job of not showing partiality to any side in this case, however, the same cannot be said for the people who were once related to this car mogul. The admiration and contempt for him come together because this man has created history but has also destroyed himself towards the end.
While the documentary is quite enjoyable to watch, the constant adjustment you have to make while jumping from English to French to Japanese and back can tend to put you off. Luckily the subtitles do a good job throughout the documentary.
While going through the history of Ghosn, you can really feel the internal strife that came along under his management and the mistakes that are etched in the minds of the people he worked with. But the admiration they once held for his work still exists and this is something that cannot be forgotten.
Altogether, this documentary is not one that will bore you and will only leave you with questions about what happened in Nissan and where is Ghosn now.

This is a documentary which you won’t regret watching as it only opens up your world to a man whose capability can not be forgotten. But just like any other human being, he too has made his fair share of mistakes, just that they are on a completely different level.
It brings you closer to the conglomerates of the two countries and their need for the person standing on top to be their own. While it also makes you think, was Ghosn’s flee from Japan valid?
Finally, this is a documentary that is set to garner some mixed reactions, but the way it reopens up an interesting case for the world is what keeps us watching it till the end and that is what matters.
