Careem partners with UNICEF to support flood relief efforts for…

Dubai, UAE – 17 October 2022: Careem, the region’s leading multi-service platform, has partnered with UNICEF and foodtech startup Kaykroo to raise funds for children and families affected by the recent floods in Pakistan.
Customers in the UAE can use the Careem app to support affected communities by selecting “Pakistan Relief” in the Donations tile and entering any amount they wish to donate, or selecting the “Pakistan Relief” car type, to add an extra 3 AED to the ride for UNICEF’s relief fund. Customer donations will fund shelter, food, and temporary education centres for children and families in Pakistan.
Fairuz Taqi-Eddin, Chief of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization at UNICEF’s Gulf Area Office said: “Since the floods crisis, the situation on the ground in Pakistan is unlike anything we have seen before. At this moment, almost 10 million children require immediate lifesaving support, and the situation will worsen with winter approaching. UNICEF welcomes this joint campaign with Careem, to raise funds for the children of Pakistan. The effective use of technology via Careem will directly engage the massive community in UNICEF’s response to the needs of children in Pakistan. UNICEF will be able to scale up critical supplies provision to save children’s lives.”
Kaykroo, UAE-headquartered foodtech startup, is also contributing to relief donations via Careem’s app. All of Kaykroo’s 26 restaurants – including Manoushe Street, The Palestinian Bakery and Good Bowl – will donate 5dhs for each meal a Customer orders on the Careem app.
Dalia Eit, Director of Marketing at Kaykroo, commented: “We have seen the devastating effects of the floods across Pakistan continue to unfold, leaving one-third of the country underwater and millions of families displaced. With people at the heart of everything we do at Kaykroo – whether it’s our team, our delivery partners, or those we serve – it was important for us to do our part in bringing together the community in support of this important cause. We’re honoured to join hands with Careem on this initiative and are hopeful that our efforts will bring some relief to the people of Pakistan.”
Careem has also partnered with Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), with Careem colleagues donating blankets and non-perishable food items to affected communities in Pakistan. Additionally, Careem will provide cash assistance to 160 Captains living in Pakistan, Qatar or the UAE whose family members are affected by the flooding in Pakistan.
Vimbai Midzi, Senior Corporate Affairs Manager said: “The floods in Pakistan have had a devastating impact on communities. Children are always among the most vulnerable groups in these kinds of crises. We’re grateful for UNICEF’s extensive support for children and families on the ground in Pakistan, and our hearts are with everyone who is just trying to survive and who has to start the painful work of rebuilding their lives. We’re also excited to welcome Kaykroo’s contribution via Careem’s app; our restaurant partners are a huge part of our ecosystem, and I’m glad we can work together on this.”
Careem’s new Donations tile is currently available to customers in the UAE, with plans to extend the offering to other markets later this year. To donate and support the Pakistan community, customers can open or download Careem from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or via direct Android download, and select the Donations tile on the Super App..
