ACI, Tourism: major automotive sporting events are driving economic and cultural

The Automobile Club of Italy is an institutional partner of the States General of Tourism – 1st national programmatic conference – taking place in Chianciano Terme until tomorrow.
“In recent times we have seen a strong escalation in the number and growth of major motor sport events – said Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy, speaking on the topic: the driving force of major car events”.
Some numbers that photograph the Motorsport Federation in Italy: 70,000 members, 90,000 people actively involved, 923 annual events in all disciplines and categories, 5 events valid for the World Championship, (including 2 Formula 1 Grand Prix, unique Country), 66 international disciplines events, 12,000 racing cars and 15,000 karts.
“All this transforms, in terms of value, according to a study, to over 3 billion euros from direct returns, 800 million euros from indirect returns, about 90,000 participants – continued Sticchi Damiani. The Formula 1 Grand Prix in Imola alone this year brought 274 million euros in total benefits. The one in Monza, on the other hand, of the Centenary, with 340,000 spectators in the 3 days of the event was the 1st event in Italy for number of public. In particular, then, since 2005 we have been organizing the Italy-Sardinia Rally valid for the World Championship, one of the most beautiful and fascinating with unique dirt roads, which has a total value of over 81 million euros.
