Collective bargaining conflict: 500,000 metalworkers go on warning strike for a better offer

Frankfurt – The collective bargaining conflict in the metal and electrical industry is calling for ever-greater protests to take to the streets. “The employees in the industry are reacting increasingly impatiently to the maneuvering of the employers’ side,” says Jörg Hofmann, first chairman of IG Metall. In the second week of the warning strike, significantly more employees across Germany briefly stopped working. Overall, in the past two weeks since the end of the peace obligation, more than half a million employees have taken part in the warning strikes, public rallies and company actions called for by IG Metall.

Jörg Hofmann, First Chairman of IG Metall: “The message is clear: The employees have no understanding for the delaying tactics of the employers in four rounds of negotiations. Your patience is dwindling – rightly so. Employers must now finally take responsibility and submit a substantial offer.”

IG Metall is therefore calling for further warning strikes for the next week and will increase the pressure. On Monday evening, the board of IG Metall will decide how to proceed.
