Paolo Vitelli, Turinese of the year 2022: the ceremony on Sunday 29 January

A big party dedicated to work and professional and scholastic commitment: it will be held at the Lingotto Congress Center this Sunday January 29 at 10, by the will of the Turin Chamber of Commerce.

Indeed, it will be the President Dario Gallina, in the presence of the authorities and the chamber council, who will present the 46th Turin of the Year Award to Paolo Vitelli, founder of Azimut, the 70th Award for Loyalty to Work and for Economic Progress to 166 people between workers still in service, retired workers, entrepreneurs, heir entrepreneurs and employees then entrepreneurs. Finally, the moment dedicated to the youngest, with the recognition of 156 Excellent technical and professional graduates, awarded among the students of technical and professional high schools in Turin and its province, who graduated with 100 or 100 cum laude, in the 2021 school year /2022.

The Turinese of the Year 2022

Cavaliere del Lavoro for 26 years, Consul of Norway for 44 years, deputy in the Letta and Renzi governments, awarded an honorary degree in mechanical engineering by the Polytechnic of Turin and numerous other international awards, President for 8 years of Ucina (Confindustria Nautica Italiana ), Paolo Vitelli, founder of Azimut and today President of the Azimut Benetti Group, is the 46th Turinese of the Year, a recognition that goes to those who, Turinese by birth or adoption, have offered a special contribution in their sector of activity.

As the President of the Turin Chamber of Commerce Dario Gallina points out: “I’m really happy that this year the Award goes to a person, an entrepreneur who has been able to create a unique company following his dreams, starting to build boats where there is no there is the sea and becoming the largest producer in the world”.

This is the official reason for the recognition: “For its extraordinary entrepreneurial history, which has successfully focused on a new sector for the Turin economic fabric, thanks to a careful combination of technical innovation and Italian design, positioning itself in a few years at the highest levels international markets and bringing abroad an image of the skills and values ​​of our territory. A significant example of managing a company capable of structuring itself from a managerial point of view and achieving constantly growing results, without neglecting particular attention to environmental and social sustainability”.

Paolo Vitelli expressed himself on hearing the news of the recognition: “I am a true Turinese, born and always lived here: Turin has always been an important point of reference for me. Today the Azimut|Benetti Group is a multinational that exports 97% of its production, but I have always been an entrepreneur with a briefcase in hand, who travels the world but then returns to Turin, where I was raised with what I believe are traits hallmarks of this city: a sense of duty, dedication to work, an entrepreneurial spirit open to the world, to the challenges of creativity and innovation, always tempered by the principle of prudence and a sense of reality”.

The Award for Loyalty to Work and for Economic Progress

On the other hand, the recognition dedicated to those who have carried out at least 35 years of service in the same company, 35 years of entrepreneurial activity on their own or 50 as heir to the founder, has reached its 70th edition. The first edition was held in 1952, with 200 awards attributed to as many workers, while more than 2,500 faithful have been awarded over the years.

As Dario Gallina, President of the Turin Chamber of Commerce explains, “This is an award that has been renewed for 70 years to honor the commitment and perseverance of those who, with their tireless work, have provided an essential contribution to the economic development of the community, local and national, in the phases of growth and difficulty that have alternated over time, and which today represents, especially for young people, a reference and an example to know and imitate”.

These are the winners of this edition:

–      13 entrepreneurs heirs of the founder

–      36 entrepreneurs

–      1 employee who later became an entrepreneur

–      8 employees who are now retired

–      108 employees still in service

for a total of 166 awards.

In first place in the Heir Entrepreneurs category are the two brothers Firmino and Fabrizio Baima, both 76 years old and working for 2 months in the carpentry shop of the same name. In third place Riccardo Viecca with 75 years and 3 months at the Vitet Viecca Tessuti Turin fabric trading company.

In the Entrepreneurs category, the first classified with 56 years and 3 months of seniority is Gandolfo Aiosa, owner of the hairdressing company of the same name. In second place is Aurelio Antonio Barbero with 50 years and 10 months, as owner of the gastronomy of the same name. In third place is Antonio Cuomo, with 47 years of seniority at the Aquila Nera hotel restaurant in Ivrea.

Only one winner in the category Employees then entrepreneurs: it is Germano Genotti Brat with 41 years and 10 months at the company of the same name that sells colours, paints and building materials.

Among the retired people, Albino Bonzano ranks first with 51 years and 10 months of activity at Olon Spa. Roberto Porceddu follows with 43 years and 1 month of activity at Autoblok Spa. Third place goes to Gino Salvatore Cassetta with 40 years and 5 months at FCA Security.

Finally, in the broad category of employees still in service, Giorgio Morello ranks first with 44 years and 11 months of seniority in SMAT. Followed by Silvano Cai with 42 years in Michelin. Third place to Ivana Cravanzola with 41 years and 6 months of seniority at Mahle Behr Italy.

Awarded Excellent Technical and Professional Graduates 2021/2022

On the festive morning, there will also be a space for young people, with theacknowledgment toExcellent technical and professional graduates, an award that the Council of the Turin Chamber of Commerce wanted to establish in 2015 precisely for students of technical and professional high schools in Turin and its province, who graduate with 100 or 100 cum laude. A way to enhance in particular technical education and the culture of entrepreneurship that can arise from high school.

According to Dario Gallina, President of the Chamber of Commerce: “Being an excellent student is certainly an innate predisposition, but constant determination and commitment in the field are also required, qualities that allow one to persevere over the years and obtain valuable results. Today these excellent, highly qualified, motivated and ready to enter the world of work or to try their hand at university experience, constitute an important resource for the development of our society”.

For the 2021/2022 school year, there are 156 awarded students, including 27 with honours, who come from 41 state technical and professional institutes in the city (16) and province of Turin (25).
