Transmit a positive message and stimulate the adoption of more responsible behaviors, without compromising safety
On the National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles, the Automobile Club of Italy (ACI) adheres to the “M’illumino di meno” awareness campaign – created by Rai Radio 2 with the Caterpillar program – by turning off all the lights unnecessary and signs, starting at 18:00, and inviting all the territorial offices and provincial Automobile Clubs to participate in the initiative.
“We adhere convinced that energy is a precious and indispensable resource, which must not be wasted, but made cleaner and cleaner. Our participation is aimed at stimulating the adoption of responsible behavior because everyone must do their part in the awareness that even a small gesture can help spread the culture of energy saving. This is why we invite everyone to always turn off the lights that are not strictly necessary”, comments the president of the ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani. “With one exception: that the dimming of the lights does not take place at the expense of road safety. We therefore ask local politicians and administrators to increase the night lighting of pedestrian crossings, especially in certain peripheral areas where poor visibility puts the lives of pedestrians and vulnerable users at risk. Let’s dim the lights, therefore, but let’s turn on the pedestrian crossings. Energy is life: we must not waste either one”. Sticchi Damiani recalls that ACI has long since embarked on a path of economic, social and environmental sustainability, as documented in the Organization’s Social Report, committing itself to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for its own activities competence and launched initiatives to raise employee awareness of virtuous and eco-sustainable behaviour.
In particular, in administrative activities, ACI promotes the responsible use of resources and is committed to monitoring and reducing the impacts associated with its activity in terms of: reduction of the need for raw materials and services; promotion of responsible consumption and reuse of purchased goods; environmentally friendly recycling of what is no longer usable; promotion of environmentally sustainable public procurement practices; return to the local area, citizens and the community as a whole, of good practices, initiatives and projects with a high public value in a green key; raising awareness of the Federation and of the investee companies to adopt eco-sustainable practices and purchasing procedures that respect the criteria of the Green Public Procurement system.
The policy implemented by ACI for effective and equitable environmental management, which envisages various projects and specific activities, follows certain guidelines, including: planning of needs aimed at purchasing products and services with a reduced environmental impact; energy efficiency plans for buildings; adherence to Consip conventions by activating the request for electricity produced exclusively from renewable sources; correct management of waste and differentiated collection; disposal of used consumables and recycling of paper; environmental awareness of employees.
