bp pulse and APCOA’s Urban Hubs to Support Urban E-Mobility Infrastructure Throughout Europe
(IN BRIEF) bp pulse and APCOA Parking Group have entered into a pan-European agreement to create over 100 EV fast charging hubs across Europe. The agreement involves the deployment of ultra-fast charging stations at APCOA car parks, known as Urban Hubs, across seven countries including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK. The first two Urban Hubs in Berlin and Bremen, Germany, are set to open in the third quarter of 2023. Registered users will be able to locate, access, book, and pay for their charging and parking at the car park from their mobile, and the car park’s entry and exit barriers will open automatically as the vehicle approaches.
(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 1-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — bp (LON: BP), a British multinational oil and gas company, announces that its electric vehicle (EV) charging business, bp pulse, and APCOA Parking Group, the leading parking solutions provider in the UK and Europe, have signed a pan-European frame agreement to set up over 100 EV fast charging hubs across the continent. The agreement will see bp pulse deploy ultra-fast charging stations at APCOA car parks, known as ‘Urban Hubs’, across Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK over the next three years. This move will help expand the charging network in city centres and promote urban e-mobility infrastructure throughout Europe.
APCOA’s car parks will be transformed into Urban Hubs, providing physical and digital infrastructure for mobility, logistics, e-charging, and technology-based services. The project aligns with APCOA’s strategy to leverage its car parks to support the ongoing evolution of urban mobility infrastructure.
The two companies will collaborate to provide a seamless customer journey through the digital integration of the bp pulse and ‘APCOA Connect’ app in the UK, and the ‘APCOA Flow’ app in Europe. Registered users will be able to locate, access, book, and pay for their charging and parking at the car park from their mobile, and the car park’s entry and exit barriers will open automatically as the vehicle approaches.
The first two Urban Hubs, located in Berlin and Bremen, Germany, are expected to open in the third quarter of 2023. These hubs will offer ultra-fast charging and operate 24/7, with the capacity to charge a minimum of six cars at once. To maximise downtime while charging, some hubs will offer a ‘driver lounge’, complete with a vending machine for hot and cold drinks, seating areas with phone charging points, free Wi-Fi, and restrooms.
As the European Union plans to ban ICE vehicles by 2035, and with measures to equip up to 30% of public parking spaces with charging facilities for electric cars, bp pulse and APCOA’s Urban Hubs will play a critical role in providing a charging solution in city centres where land is often limited.
