Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that a signing ceremony of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Toyota Tsusho and the ministries of the Republic of Angola was held on March 14, 2023 at Toyota Tsusho’s head office in Nagoya. At the ceremony, MOUs regarding the healthcare, renewable energy, and infrastructure fields were signed with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Energy and Water, and a development company under the Ministry of Transport, respectively.
An MOU was signed with the Ministry of Health regarding “Donation of One Refrigerated Vaccine Transport Vehicle (RVTV) and Field Testing.” The RVTV acquired the world’s first Performance, Quality and Safety (PQS) certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2021 toward decreasing the disposal rates and improving rates of vaccines for infants and COVID-19 vaccines. One RVTV will be donated, and field testing to study the effectiveness and feasibility of its introduction will be conducted for approximately six months.
An MOU was signed with the Ministry of Energy and Water, regarding “Joint Study on Renewable Energy and Water Supply Infrastructure Development.” The joint study will be conducted for approximately two years, starting in March 2023, aimed at developing water supply infrastructure using renewable energy, in accordance with the government’s infrastructure development plan, to contribute to the improvement of people’s quality of life.
An MOU was signed with Barra do Dande Development Society, S.A. under the Ministry of Transport on “Joint Study on Infrastructure Development in the Barra do Dande Free Trade Zone (FTZ).” With seasoned experiences, Toyota Tsusho is set to participate in study on the development of renewable energy and infrastructure in the first FTZ established in Angola, aiming to contribute to industries to be diversified and job to be created in the country. The joint study will be conducted for approximately one year starting in 2023.
Angolan President João Lourenço, who was present at the MOU signing ceremony, stated that, “The realization of the cooperation between Angola and Japan requires the participation from the private sector, and Toyota Tsusho is our most important partner. With the MOU signed today, Toyota Tsusho’s responsibility in Angola will become even greater. We will do everything we can to make this MOU a reality.”
Toyota Tsusho group has positioned industrial transformation, green economy, global health, and capacity building as key business domains, with its key message of “for the future children of Africa.” At the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) held in Tunisia last August, Toyota Tsusho signed 25 MOUs with governments, private-sector companies, and UN agencies in major African countries for the materialization of such initiatives.
