(ACTUALITÉ EN BREF) Les marques du groupe Volkswagen ont rejoint le Leather Working Group (LWG) pour jouer un rôle de premier plan dans l’approvisionnement responsable en matières premières, en promouvant la durabilité tout au long de la chaîne de valeur. Le LWG est une organisation à but non lucratif qui certifie les fabricants de cuir et garantit la transparence et les normes environnementales et sociales pour les chaînes d’approvisionnement du cuir dans le monde entier. Avec plus de 2 000 entreprises membres représentant plus d’un quart de la production mondiale de cuir fini, l’adhésion du groupe Volkswagen au LWG fait partie de son ambitieuse stratégie de développement durable, qui comprend des critères stricts pour le bien-être des animaux, la production de cuir responsable et le respect d’une utilisation durable de l’eau et éviter la pollution de l’eau. Depuis début 2022, les fournisseurs sont tenus de se conformer aux spécifications d’appel d’offres spécifiques au matériau pour le cuir, y compris la divulgation du pays d’origine de la matière première et un certificat de durabilité spécifique au cuir.

Le LWG est une organisation à but non lucratif basée à Milton Keynes, au Royaume-Uni, qui garantit la transparence et des normes environnementales et sociales uniformes pour les chaînes d’approvisionnement du cuir dans le monde entier, et certifie les fabricants de cuir. Avec plus de 2 000 entreprises membres représentant plus d’un quart de la production mondiale de cuir fini, les membres du LWG comprennent des acteurs allant des tanneries aux industries de transformation du cuir, des associations, des commerçants et des acheteurs.

Au sein du groupe Volkswagen, Porsche AG est responsable de l’évaluation des risques de durabilité liés à l’approvisionnement en cuir et de la mise en œuvre de mesures d’atténuation.

Avec son soutien, nous entendons faire avancer le développement d’outils et de méthodes qui auront un impact positif sur l’industrie du cuir.
L’ambitieuse stratégie de développement durable du groupe Volkswagen est étayée par l’adhésion au groupe de travail sur le cuir. Dans son premier rapport sur les matières premières responsables, publié en 2021, le Groupe a détaillé sa méthodologie et ses activités dans le cadre d’un système de gestion des achats de matières premières nouvellement mis en place, couvrant 16 matières premières à haut risque, y compris les matériaux pour batteries tels que le lithium et le cobalt, et cuir.
Depuis début 2022, des cahiers des charges spécifiques aux matériaux pour le cuir ont été introduits et les fournisseurs sont tenus de s’y conformer pour tous les nouveaux contrats attribués depuis avril 2022. Le cahier des charges prévoit la divulgation du pays d’origine de la matière première et d’un cuir. -certificat de durabilité spécifique, délivré, par exemple, par le LWG. Le groupe Volkswagen exige de ses fournisseurs qu’ils respectent le bien-être des animaux et soient responsables dans leur production et leur transformation du cuir, en respectant des critères stricts d’utilisation de l’eau et en évitant la pollution de l’eau lors du processus de tannage. Les marques Volkswagen n’utilisent aucun cuir qui contribue à la déforestation illégale.
L’adhésion du groupe Volkswagen au groupe de travail sur le cuir est une nouvelle étape dans sa quête d’une plus grande durabilité tout au long de sa chaîne de valeur, y compris l’approvisionnement responsable en matières premières.
