Frankfurt am Main – The current pay analysis by IG Metall for the information and communication technology sector shows that working conditions are also positively influenced by collective agreements in these sectors. In 2022, employees across all professions who had a collective agreement would earn almost 15% more wages than in companies without a collective agreement. The average income growth across all sectors was 4.1%.
This can be a decisive factor when choosing a job, especially for the highly sought-after specialists in the IT sector. Christiane Benner, Deputy Chairwoman of IG Metall, emphasizes: “Our offer increases transparency for employees about income in the IT sector. In view of the shortage of skilled workers in IT professions, IT specialists will base their job and career decisions even more on whether their employer is bound by a collective agreement.”
Reduced working hours through collective agreements – also in IT
In addition to the payment, the average weekly working time is also recorded in the ITC remuneration analysis. Over 75% of employees with a collective agreement work 37.5 hours a week or less. The difference to employees without a collective agreement is particularly striking here. Only 5% work 37.5 hours a week, 91% work 40 hours a week. Important here: the longer working hours are not reflected in better pay. Because despite the shorter working hours, employees with a collective agreement have a higher annual salary.
A particularly positive example of the positive effect of collective bargaining coverage is the group (called “job family” in the survey) of software engineers. As a senior software specialist, the average income of employees covered by a collective agreement is over 17% or €12,205 higher than that of employees without a collective agreement.
IG Metall makes the data available online as comparable groups, giving all employees and interested parties the opportunity to compare their pay.
