The progress at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) has been continuous since it broke ground in Alabama. So what’s the latest? Check out these 10 quick facts about the facility, which continues to give back to its community and incorporate cutting-edge manufacturing technologies into its production lines.
- Located in Huntsville, Alabama, construction on the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) facility began in 2018 and was completed in 2021.
- MTM is a joint venture partnership between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation, producing both the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-50 on two side-by-side lines. Production of the Corolla Cross started in September 2021, followed by the Mazda CX-50 in January 2022. The all-new Corolla Cross Hybrid will also be produced at the facility.
- The two lines were named as a tribute to Huntsville’s leadership role with the U.S. space program: Apollo and Discovery, respectively.
- The plant has the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles a year, evenly split between the two nameplates.
- It is the only North American facility to produce the Corolla Cross.
- As of March 2023, Toyota and Mazda have invested $2.311 billion into MTM.

- In 2023, the facility received Gold Certified status from the Wildlife Habitat Council for its stewardship and conservation efforts.
- As part of its groundbreaking, MTM donated $750,000 to support STEM-related programs to encourage and motivate students to pursue advanced manufacturing careers. Since then, the Inaugural Mazda Toyota Manufacturing Grant Fund was launched, giving an additional $180,000 to 10 local nonprofit organizations. MTM started its second round of giving in January 2023 and those grants will be awarded in May 2023.
