Frankfurt am May – The Executive Board of IG Metall has followed the personnel proposal for the future management team of IG Metall submitted by First Chairman Jörg Hofmann. The executive board members – like the entire board – will be re-elected at the IG Metall union conference from October 22 to 26, 2023. The previous first chairman Jörg Hofmann as well as the previous managing board members Wolfgang Lemb, Ralf Kutzner and Irene Schulz are no longer standing for election. In addition, the board had decided to propose to the trade union conference to reduce the number of executive board members from 7 to 5.
The board nominated Christiane Benner, currently second chairwoman of IG Metall, for the office of first chairwoman.
The Executive Board recommends Jürgen Kerner, currently chief cashier of IG Metall, as second chairman. According to the decision of the board, Nadine Boguslawski, currently the first authorized representative of the Stuttgart office, is to succeed this office.
The executive board member Hans-Jürgen Urban is nominated for re-election. The proposal envisages Ralf Reinstädtler, currently the first authorized representative of the Homburg-Saarpfalz office, as the new executive board member.
Jörg Hofmann, First Chairman of IG Metall: “This personnel proposal promises continuity despite major personnel changes. This applies to IG Metall’s claim to a social-ecological and democratic transformation of the industrial and trade sectors we represent, but also to the social framework conditions that are necessary to make this transformation possible. It also stands for the continuation of a consistent restructuring of IG Metall in the direction of a strong participatory and conflict-capable organizational power on site in the approximately 150 offices of IG Metall nationwide.
I’m sure that the management team I’m proposing is the best choice for the future of IG Metall. The broad thematic expertise, the personal experience at all levels of our organization and the new impetus are the right prerequisites for successfully tackling the challenges ahead. In this way, IG Metall will remain the assertive, combative and future-oriented trade union it is today in the years to come.”
