ACI: the “Specialist Motorsport Academy” is born

The training school, a key project for the development of Italian motor racing

By will of the Automobile Club of Italy, the Specialist Motorsport Academy was born, a high-profile training school – managed and directed by ACI Sport – aimed at operators in the sector, with the aim of increasing their professional level.

“Without fanfare – explained the president of the Automobile Club of Italy, Angelo Sticchi Damiani – but with the attention, care and caution that we have always adopted in giving life to all of ACI’s most relevant and significant projects Sport, the Specialist Motorsport Academy begins to take its first steps. This is a project destined to play a key role, both in the development of Italian motorsport and in its growth at an international level. In this Academy, operators in the sector will be trained, with the aim of identifying and training future professionals in the various sectors of motorsport”.

Three training courses: sports, technical, medical

Raffaele Giammaria, 46 years old, was called to direct the Academy, a well-known driver in the major Italian and international Gran Turismo series, 2014 Italian champion, instructor and director of the Federal School, as well as president of the ACI Sport Karting Commission since 2022. For now, three courses are offered: sports training (under the responsibility of Alessandro Tibiletti), technical training (Roberto De Felice) and medical training (Saul Collini). As part of sports training, an online course for Sports Stewards will be held tomorrow, Wednesday 18 October, at 8.30pm.

Academy headquarters: ACI Vallelunga facility

Most of the courses will be held in person at the ACI Vallelunga facility, which includes the Circuit, the Conference Centre, the Safe Driving Centre, dedicated classrooms and laboratories. The topics covered by the courses concern: sports training: sports organization, personnel and resource management, management of critical issues and interventions, pre- and post-event documentation; relations with the Authorities, inspections, installations, approvals and responsibilities; technical training: sports organization, personnel and resource management, management of technical checks, tools and analyses, homologation of cars and components; medical and first aid training: sports organization, personnel and resource management, management of critical issues and interventions, medical aspects, extrication techniques and methods, BLS and BLS-D courses for the use of defibrillators. The initial objective of the Academy is to train operators who collaborate with ACI on the competition fields between Technical Stewards, Sports Stewards, Course Stewards, Sports Doctors and Safety Assistants.
