November 15, 2023

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan announces today that the Serena minivan won the RJC Car of the Year award and the RJC Technology of the Year award in Japan for 2023.
Below is a summary of the reasons given by RJC for the awards.
RJC Car of the Year
The RJC recognized the Serena as a vehicle that can always ensure safety for occupants thanks to its spacious cabin space even when all seats are occupied. It has excellent quietness and an advanced driver support system, ProPILOT 2.0. The RJC rated the model highly overall, from its affordable entry model to the Luxion version equipped with cutting-edge technologies. All models deliver the new driving experience expected of minivans.
RJC Technology of the Year
The HR14DDe engine, newly developed for the e-POWER electrified powertrain, achieved higher combustion efficiency by adopting direct-injection, a longer stroke, and an optimized compression ratio. The RJC highly evaluated the engine for significantly boosting the advantages of e-POWER. With enhanced rigidness and a balancer shaft, it achieves greater quietness by decreasing the normal rotation speed, as well as by controlling the engine to operate in line with the navigation system.

The new Serena, which underwent a full model change in November last year, has been well received by customers for its spacious interior, improved convenience, and smooth and powerful acceleration with the second-generation e-POWER system. The vehicle’s excellent quietness and ProPILOT 2.0, which can support long drives, have also been highly rated. As of the end of October, the total number of orders received in Japan exceeded 60,000 units.
