IG Metall firmly rejects the federal government’s plans to make further budget savings by reducing the federal subsidy to pension insurance. Hans-Jürgen Urban, executive board member of IG Metall and in this role responsible for social policy issues:
“A cut in the federal subsidy is nothing other than a financial policy shift and budget consolidation at the expense of the insured. At a time of great uncertainty when people are looking for social security, cutting funding for pensions and other social spending sends absolutely the wrong message. Therefore: stay away from the pension! Cuts in pensions and other social spending lead to great uncertainty and loss of trust. Such policies drive people into the arms of right-wing populists and endanger social cohesion and democracy. This is social explosive.”
