The Ministry of Education and Merit and the Automobile Club of Italy renew the agreement for continuous training in schools on the subject of responsible and sustainable mobility.
Education for safe and sustainable mobility in schools is at the center of the agreement signed today in Rome between the Ministry of Education and Merit and the Automobile Club of Italy. The agreement, signed by the MIM Minister Giuseppe Valditara and the ACI president Angelo Sticchi Damiani, renews the synergy started in 2020 with the EduStrada project and strengthens institutional interaction for the benefit of students of all levels, who benefit from updated training modules and complete in terms of road safety.
In particular, the parties undertake to promote educational workshops to introduce children to the peculiarities of the area of residence and focus attention on the causes of accidents and the protection of vulnerable road users. The proposed educational path exploits the most innovative technologies to safely experience the critical conditions that can arise on the road, promoting the adoption of correct and respectful behavior also through the appeal and values of sport.
With modules and messages specific to the age of the children, the training activity will be enriched with new and renewed proposals on the entire educational cycle of the school: from nursery school, with lessons on the correct use of the seat and respect for the rules in sport as in mobility, up to high school, with reminders of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, but also promoting knowledge of technologies to support safe and sustainable mobility.
The educational activities prepared will be included by schools in their civic education teaching programmes, with particular attention to safeguarding the universal right to mobility of individuals, especially disabled people.
The agreement also frames the scheduling of training events at ACI offices in the area on the value of road safety, also through the organization of a key event on responsible mobility on the occasion of World Road Victims Day.
“The school must play a leading role in spreading the culture of road safety – declares the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara – and the drama of so many lives lost due to road accidents cannot be tolerated. Together with the Ministers of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, and of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, we have been engaged for some time in projects aimed at raising citizens’ awareness of this issue, starting right from school. The memorandum of understanding between MIM and ACI is part of this path, aiming to convey to our young people the value of respecting the rules and therefore of the other, of the person, an indispensable prerequisite for correct civic action”.
“Road safety is a personal right and a social value – states the President of the Automobile Club of Italy, Angelo Sticchi Damiani – to be promoted with every effort, especially among the youngest, not only because they are the drivers of tomorrow, but because they are also dramatically affected by the plague of accidents. More than 100 under-17s lost their lives on our roads last year and the number is rising sharply: +20% compared to 2021, with a similar trend up to 19-year-olds. The agreement with the MIM constitutes a national and local institutional point of connection for training in responsible and sustainable mobility, proposing a continuous educational path from nursery schools to high schools”.
