YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will host the 13th annual Nissan Connect Race together with the Japan Blind Marathon Association on March 3 in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Atsugi City.
The tradition began in 2012 with the aim of providing a space where the sight-challenged can safely run in middle-to-long distance running races.
Runners will gather at the Nissan Technical Center, which dedicates the entire day to the event in a closed environment. Nissan aims to build a bond between enthusiastic runners, spectators and the local community and encourage the development of sports for people of all ages and abilities through friendly competition.
Visually impaired runners are welcome to participate with support partners and elementary school children can join in the fun if they are accompanied by a guardian.
The race features several competition categories that cater to all abilities and preferences, including 2.4 km, 5 km and 10 km competitive routes as well as a 1.5- km walking route.
NPO Japan Blind Marathon Association has been supporting events for sight-challenged runners since 1984. A portion of the entry fee will be donated to organizations that serve the visually impaired.
Nissan aims to be a truly sustainable company that helps realize a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world by providing opportunities to bring together people with diverse needs. This includes the promotion and development of sports for all people regardless of their abilities.
