06.03.2024
The positive season continues for the second-hand market which recorded double-digit increases in February, also due to the extra working day for the leap year. Changes in ownership of cars net of mini-transfers (temporary transfers in the name of the dealer awaiting resale to the end customer) recorded an increase of 15.6% compared to the month of February 2023 (+10.1% in terms of average daily), confirming once again how the used market continues to attract greater support than the new market: for every 100 new cars in February, 185 second-hand ones were sold, which rose overall to 193 in the first two months of the year.
Net passages of motorcycles were also growing, resulting in an increase of 14.3% compared to the month of February 2023 (+8.8% in terms of daily average).
As regards food, consumer preferences, for the umpteenth time, have fallen on traditional fuels (diesel and petrol); however, the share of second-hand petrol hybrid cars stands at 6.3%, showing an increase of 72.4%. Sales of electric cars are still at a standstill, although they are growing by 71.2%, they still do not exceed the 0.6% share.
In the mini-transfers, diesel fuels confirmed their first place (49.7% share in February, down compared to the same month in 2023, when it was 53%). The incidence of hybrid petrol fueling is instead at 7.9%, once again exceeding that of LPG fueling which stands at 7.5%. Finally, it is worth highlighting the increase in mini-transfers of diesel hybrid cars (+60.5%), the share of which however still remains below 2%.
In the first two months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2023, net transfers show increases of 14.1% for cars, 11.4% for motorcycles and 13.2% for all vehicles.
The data is reported in the latest monthly bulletin “Auto-Trend”, the statistical analysis carried out by the Automobile Club of Italy on PRA data, which can be consulted on the website www.aci.it.
