YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) today announced Shinichi Kiga is appointed executive director for Nissan’s Super GT GT500 teams.
Kiga, who joined Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in 1990, brings extensive experience in the field of engine and powertrain development, as well as product planning. As Chief Engineer for the groundbreaking KR20DDET engine, he oversaw the development of the world’s first variable compression ratio engine.
He joined NMC on April 1st, 2024, as senior vice president in charge of development and planning of its motorsports division. In addition, he was appointed as the executive director for Nissan’s Super GT GT500 teams.
“The appointment is a great honor, and at the same time, it is a huge responsibility to regain the championship title,” said Kiga. “Fully utilizing my experience at Nissan in powertrain development and as a project leader, I would like to provide opportunities for all the Nissan GT500 teams to maximize their performance. I am determined to work hard and make quick and decisive decisions to improve the results of all Nissan teams.”

Kiga succeeds Motohiro Matsumura, who has served as the executive director since 2019. Matsumura stays on at Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. and will support Kiga in the role of executive partner.
