Christiane Benner on the outcome of the election for employee representation at VW in Chattanooga

“We are happy for and congratulate our colleagues at VW in Chattanooga, Tennessee on their election as employee representatives by the United Auto Workers (UAW). They voted for it with a large majority and thus prevailed against unsightly influence from politics and anti-union groups. The company maintained neutrality in the factory. The employees’ courage, patience and perseverance were rewarded. We are now looking forward to the upcoming collective bargaining negotiations and hope that the positive signal from this election will also encourage other employees in the region to exercise their rights to organize.”

Further information: IG Metall clearly represents the opinion: All employees have the right to form or join trade unions or employee representatives. We also supported these efforts at the plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. IG Metall is a member of the IndustriAll Global Union, which also supports the UAW and has shown its solidarity on the picket lines in past labor disputes. The organizations are in contact and are sure of their mutual support. IG Metall will continue to support its colleagues in Chattanooga together with the global works council at VW.
