@Toyota: Toyota Tsusho Starts Vehicle Assembly Production of Toyota Cars in Cambodia~Contributing to the Development of Cambodia’s Mobility Industry~

Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (“TTMC”) in the Kingdom of Cambodia started SKD* production of Toyota Motor Corporation’s (“Toyota”) HILUX pickup truck and FORTUNER SUV on May 2, 2024, at its new plant in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.

*Semi knock-down. A method of vehicle assembly that only requires simple processes such as the tightening of bolts.

This project is an initiative based on the “MOU on Cooperation for the Development of the Automobile Industry” signed between the Government of Cambodia and Toyota Tsusho in November 2022.

The ceremony held at the plant to mark the start of production was attended by Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Atsushi Ueno, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The start of assembly production marks a new milestone in the more than 30 years of Toyota Tsusho’s history in Cambodia. Toyota Tsusho will continue to promote its business in Cambodia, aiming to contribute to the happiness of the Cambodian people by realizing carbon neutrality and human resources development.

The Toyota Tsusho Group entered Cambodia in 1993 as an after-sales service company with the aim of providing high-quality automobile repair and maintenance. Since then, over the past 30 years, the Group has developed and expanded its business centered on the mobility industry, including automobile import distributors, automobile sales finance, and support for the entry of parts manufacturers (Technopark business), in order to contribute to Cambodia’s industrial development. Cambodia’s automobile market is expected to continue to expand steadily in line with the country’s economic growth.

through the promotion of the vehicle assembly production business, The Toyota Tsusho Group will be more deeply involved in the mobility value chain, job creation, and human resources development in Cambodia and contribute to the country’s economy and social development through the development of the mobility industry.
