10.05.2024
On the occasion of the upcoming elections for the European Parliament – 8 and 9 June 2024 – the Brussels Office of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has published a Mobility manifesto, addressed to future elected officials. There are essentially three requests: ensuring that mobility remains accessible, also from an economic point of view, by implementing a “holistic” transition towards sustainability, which leaves no one behind; exploit the benefits of digitalisation in the automotive sector; increase road safety measures and educational campaigns, to achieve the community objective of zero road deaths by 2050.
The document Furthermore, it recalls that freedom of movement has been a fundamental right in a united Europe since its establishment and that the way in which citizens reach their workplace, go to do errands and travel within the territory contributes to Union economy for 5% of GDP and provides jobs for around 10 million people in the transport sector.
For Jorge F. Delgado – President of Region I FIA – “The Mobility Manifesto brings together the opinions and priorities of the members of the European Office of the FIA, who collectively represent the interests of 400 million users in Europe. The document illustrates data and requirements to make mobility accessible for all. The increase in the cost of living, the push towards electric vehicles and the significant efforts still needed to achieve ambitious road safety objectives have a strong impact on the mobility scenario ensure that citizens have sufficient guarantees for their freedom of movement”.
For her part, Laurianne Krid – Director General of FIA Region I – confirmed that, “the European office of the FIA is committed to working with the representatives in the next mandate, to ensure sustainable, affordable and safe mobility for all”.
