IG Metall on pension package II: Employees now expect speed

Christiane Benner, First Chairwoman of IG Metall: “The FDP must finally be clear: anyone who plays with social policy is losing trust. Anyone who undermines the statutory pension endangers the cohesion of the generations. We are pleased that the Federal Minister of Labor has remained steadfast. Millions of employees and pensioners now expect a rapid and hassle-free legislative process.”

Hans-Jürgen Urban, IG Metall board member responsible for social policy: “The pension package II stops the programmed devaluation of pensions for another 15 years. This is an important milestone. But old-age security policy must not stand still: an appropriate pension target is above the 48 percent mark. There will only be a fair distribution of burdens with employment insurance that everyone pays into. That would definitely be better than speculating on a reduction in the burden on contributions with the uncertain interest rate bet on generational capital.”
