The Automobile Club of Italy and the Carabinieri Forestali strengthen the ecological alliance by planting trees to offset the CO2 emissions of car races

The emotions for motor racing merge with the continuous attention to environmental protection in the initiative “Each pilot a tree”, launched by ACI and the Forestry Carabinieri – CC Biodiversity Grouping.

The project, which made its debut in 2024 with the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, aims to offset the carbon dioxide generated by the car races of another eight races scheduled for 2024: the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza and seven races that will feature historic cars throughout the country.

The Forestry Carabinieri will donate 100 trees for each race, which will be planted in the municipalities affected by the sporting events. The initiative is part of the memorandum of understanding between the ACI and the Carabinieri signed in 2020, which also provides for the promotion of projects for young people regarding responsible mobility, thus contributing to a more sustainable and safe future.

“This year we continue the synergistic activity that will bring thousands of new trees throughout the national territory – declares Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club of Italy – underlining how there is not and can never be any contrast between the world of engines and the protection of the planet”.

The project was born in 2023 from an intuition of the engineer. Paolo Cantarella, president of the ACI Historic Cars Commission and it became a reality thanks to the commitment of all the structures of the Federation of the Automobile Club of Italy, together with the organizers of the races, the local authorities and the Forestry Carabinieri.

In addition to the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza on 1 September, the initiative will involve the “Valsugana Historic Rally” scheduled for 31 May, the “Rally Lana Storico” in Biella on 21 June, the “Lago Montefiascone ” on 23 June, the “Cesana – Sestriere” on 5 July, the “Guarcino – Campo Catino” on 6 September, the “Coppa Faro” in Pesaro on 4 October and the “Rally del Brunello” in Montalcino on 29 November.
