ACI: use also increasing in the month of May, yet another positive balance for radiation
07.06.2024
A plus sign also in May for the second-hand market in Italy. Changes in ownership of cars net of mini-transfers (temporary transfers in the name of the dealer awaiting resale to the end customer) recorded an increase of 7.7% compared to May 2023. The used market continues to attract greater support than to the new market: for every 100 new cars in May, 193 second-hand ones were sold (186 in the first five months of the year).
Net passages of motorcycles also increased, with an increase of 6.1% in May compared to the same month in 2023.
In the choice of fuel, consumer preferences, for the umpteenth time, fell mostly on traditional fuels (diesel and petrol), while the market share of used hybrid petrol cars stood at 7.6%, with a increase of 68.5%. Second-hand electric cars, although growing by 67.8%, still do not exceed 0.7% share.
In mini-transfers, diesel cars firmly confirmed themselves at the top of the rankings (48.6% share in May, down compared to the same month in 2023, when it stood at 52.9%). The incidence of hybrid petrol fuels reaches 8.7%, with an increase of 57.5%, and therefore continues to exceed that of bi-fuel petrol/LPG which stands at 7.1%. Finally, it is worth highlighting the increase in mini-transfers of diesel and electric hybrid cars, which achieved increases of 60.3% and 64.1% respectively, but with percentages still below 2%.
In the first five months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2023, net transfers show increases of 10.2% for cars, 6.2% for motorcycles and 9.1% for all vehicles.
The data is reported in the latest monthly bulletin “Auto-Trend”, the statistical analysis carried out by the Automobile Club of Italy on PRA data, which can be consulted on the website www.aci.it.
The good performance of radiation continues in May too, although it slows down but does not slow down the constant growth of the Italian fleet. Car radiation recorded an increase of 11.7% compared to May 2023 (determined in particular by a 21% growth in exports). The unit replacement rate was equal to 0.70 in the month of May (for every 100 new cars 70 were deregistered) and 0.71 in the first five months of 2024.
Motorcycle radiation is also on the rise, closing the May balance sheet with an increase of 6.3%.
Overall, from January to May 2024, compared to the same months of 2023, radiation increased by 23.6% for cars, 12.6% for motorcycles and 23% for all vehicles.
