Frankfurt am Main – ICT employees with a collective agreement earn an average of 14.3 percent more money than their colleagues without a collective agreement. The annual survey of salaries in the ICT industry carried out by IG Metall showed an average income increase of 5.6 percent across all sectors at the end of 2023.
The ITC pay analysis also records the average weekly working hours: over 75 percent of employees with a collective agreement work 37.5 hours or less. Without a collective agreement, a 40-hour week is the norm almost across the board at 97%. Despite the lower working hours, employees with a collective agreement have a higher annual salary.
“The results of the survey confirm that employees in companies with collective bargaining agreements are paid better. “In view of the shortage of skilled workers in IT professions, IT specialists will base their job and career decisions even more closely on whether their employer is bound by collective bargaining agreements,” explains Christiane Benner, First Chairwoman of IG Metall. “Our offer increases transparency for employees about income in the IT sector.”
The positive effect of collective bargaining becomes particularly clear using the example of the group of software engineers. As a senior software specialist, for example, the average income of employees covered by a collective agreement is over 21%, i.e. €15,000 higher than that of employees without a collective agreement.
