Race
The decision on the drivers’ title in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has been postponed until the finale in Monza, Italy (30 August to 1 September 2024). Larry ten Voorde celebrated his fifth win of the season in Zandvoort at the wheel of Schumacher CLRT’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. However, his rival from BWT Lechner Racing, Harry King, kept his title chances alive by finishing fifth on the Dutch Grand Prix circuit. A win is essential for the Englishman in Monza, while in this case even twelfth place would be enough for Larry ten Voorde to secure the title. Marvin Klein also tackled the seventh race of the season with the championship crown in his sights. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, he failed to finish and can now close out the season not higher than as vice-champion.
“This victory was missing from my resumé,” grinned Larry ten Voorde. Although the 27-year-old had clinched 13 wins in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup so far, he had yet to celebrate victory at his home race. “The whole team had to work hard for this result. I didn’t turn a fast lap in practice due to a technical hiccup. The mechanics had to change the engine overnight. Then, I was at the very front in qualifying. Now the win – that’s just incredible.”
Dutchman Jaap van Lagen started the race from the third grid spot and secured second place. “The decisive factor was that I managed to overtake Huub van Eijndhoven right after the start. After that, however, I had to survive two restarts following safety car periods – that was nerve-wracking, to say the least,” said the Supercup veteran. The 47-year-old, who drives for the Italian team Dinamic Motorsport, finished on the podium for the first time since 2018.
Huub van Eijndhoven, ironically a former pupil of Jaap van Lagen, defended third place for an extended stint at the Circuit Zandvoort. It was only on the penultimate lap that Robert de Haan fought his way past his Dutch compatriot. However, the 18-year-old from the BWT Lechner Racing team was subsequently penalised and relegated to fourth place behind Van Eijndhoven. “If two drivers are allowed to finish ahead of me, it’s Larry ten Voorde and Jaap van Lagen: I’ve learnt everything I know about racing from those two,” said a delighted Van Eijndhoven.
Robert de Haan eventually was classified in fourth place ahead of Harry King. The Briton had started the race from ninth on the grid but swiftly catapulted to fifth place with some inspired overtaking manoeuvres.
De Haan retained his victory in the Rookie classification and reduced the gap in the standings to championship leader Kas Haverkort to just six points. The Dutchman, who, like Huub van Eijndhoven races for Uniserver by Team GP Elite, finished sixth in the overall standings and second in the Rookie classification. Frenchman Mathys Jaubert climbed the rookie podium in third place.
With this, Schumacher CLRT has preliminary claimed the title in the team standings. The outfit with drivers Larry ten Voorde, Marvin Klein and Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti travels to Monza with a 47-point advantage over BWT Lechner Racing. A maximum of 45 points are still up for grabs in the team standings.
“The 2023 finale in Monza was a nail-biter because a different driver could technically have taken the title with almost every lap. Next week’s race should be just as exciting: the title fights in the drivers’ and rookie standings are still open. This proves just how strong the Supercup field is again this season. Huge congratulations to team Schumacher CLRT on winning their first Supercup title,” commented Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Qualifying
His rival Harry King only managed the ninth-fastest time in qualifying. From his point of view, the Briton from the BWT Lechner Racing team ideally needs to finish ahead of Larry ten Voorde to delay the title decision until the finale in Monza next weekend.
Rain until shortly before the start of the session, two red flags and a dry racing line only in the final few minutes: Qualifying for the penultimate race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season was not for the faint-hearted. Larry ten Voorde coped the best with the trying conditions at the Circuit Zandvoort. The Dutchman from the Schumacher CLRT team set the fastest lap shortly before the end to secure pole position.
“I’m at a loss for words, the qualifying was so intense and the way the fans cheered me on afterwards,” commented an unusually emotional Larry ten Voorde. “To be honest, I really enjoyed the final practice session in these difficult conditions. We had to improvise a lot. But my team made exactly the right calls and sent me out onto the track with fresh tyres at precisely the right time.”
The two-time Supercup champion will be joined on the first grid row by his compatriot Huub van Eijndhoven. Jaap van Lagen, another Dutchman, secured the third grid position for the home race. “That was seriously nerve-wracking. I knew I only had one attempt, and it had to be flawless,” said van Eijndhoven, who drives for Uniserver by Team GP Elite. Dinamic Motorsport driver van Lagen added: “These are typical Zandvoort conditions. We Dutch drivers played to our home advantage today.”
The strong performance from guest driver Wouter Boerekamps, who secured the sixth grid spot in GP Elite’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, also supports this theory. A total of ten Dutch drivers will compete in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s round on the North Sea coast.
Could the title be decided this weekend?
If the race sees the same result as qualifying, Larry ten Voorde could celebrate his third Supercup title ahead of schedule. The 27-year-old will start the seventh round of the season with a seven-point lead over Harry King. The Englishman, who drives for BWT Lechner Racing, made a mistake on his decisive qualifying lap and ultimately only achieved the ninth-best time. Even a second-place finish would suffice for ten Voorde to win the title if King leaves Zandvoort with less than two points – equivalent to 14th place. Conversely, if Larry ten Voorde were to win, the Briton would have to finish at least eighth to be still able to turn the tide in Monza.
Marvin Klein, who is twelve points behind his teammate Larry ten Voorde, also still has a theoretical chance of securing the title. The Frenchman qualified fourth on the grid. Realistically, however, he needs his second win of the season to keep his championship hopes alive until the finale in Monza next weekend (31 August to 2 September 2024).
In the duel for the title in the Rookie classification between Kas Haverkort (Unisever by Team GP Elite) and Robert de Haan (BWT Lechner Racing), the starting positions are closer together. Championship leader Haverkort qualified fifth fastest, with De Haan starting only two positions behind him. Ten points currently separate the two Dutchmen. A similar race result would postpone the title decision for the Supercup newcomers until the finale.
Schumacher CLRT’s lead in the team standings is more clear-cut. The team consists of Larry ten Voorde, Marvin Klein and Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, who have already built up a 48-point lead over BWT Lechner Racing. Harry King, Robert de Haan and German Theo Oeverhaus take the wheel for the Austrian outfit. The teams can score a maximum of 45 points per weekend.

Preview
The 2024 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup turns onto the home straight this weekend with the seventh of eight races this season. A 29-strong line-up of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will race at the Circuit Zandvoort as part of the Dutch Grand Prix support programme. Championship leader Larry ten Voorde and his two hottest rivals, Harry King and Marvin Klein, are separated by just twelve points. The race gets underway on Sunday (25 August 2024) at 11:05 CEST.
Historically, Dutch drivers have made up a large percentage of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup grid. Currently, five drivers from the Netherlands are permanently registered to contest the international one-make cup. At the Circuit Zandvoort, four guest drivers will join the home team. Among them is Flynt Schuring from the Proton Huber Competition team, the youngest contender in the field. The brother of Morris Schuring, last year’s Zandvoort winner, has just celebrated his 18th birthday. “I haven’t set my sights quite as high as Morris,” says Flynt Schuring, keeping his expectations in check ahead of his second Supercup race. “But I certainly want to make an impression in front of the magnificent backdrop of tens of thousands of Dutch fans.”
Larry ten Voorde obviously has high hopes coming into his home race. The two-time Supercup champion wants to defend his championship lead on the 4.259-kilometre circuit at the North Sea coast. “Although I live about an hour and a half’s drive from Zandvoort, I’ve spent more time there than on any other racetrack – this circuit is like my second home,” says ten Voorde, who has claimed the top step of the podium four times so far this Supercup season. “My family and many of my friends will be making the trip to cheer me on this weekend. I hope I can thank them with my first Supercup win in Zandvoort.” Driving for Schumacher CLRT, Larry ten Voorde laid the foundations for this goal in June, when he won two Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland races in one weekend at the same venue.
Harry King is yet to win a race on the Dutch Formula 1 circuit. “Nevertheless, I like the track, it’s very demanding to drive,” stated the Englishman from the BWT Lechner Racing squad. Thanks to his victory in Budapest and third place in Spa-Francorchamps, King has closed the gap to championship leader ten Voorde to seven points. “My title chances are still intact,” King calculated. “But I definitely have to beat Larry to the finish line in Zandvoort.”
Marvin Klein, currently third overall and teammate of Larry ten Voorde, has a completely different Zandvoort tally: two years ago, the Frenchman celebrated his first Supercup victory ever on the Dutch circuit. Four weeks ago, he claimed his second Supercup win, crossing the finish line first in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. This catapulted him into the trio of title aspirants. “I struggled a bit at the start of the season,” admits Klein. “But things have improved in the last three races. I want to go for victory in Zandvoort as well.”
In the Rookie classification, two Dutch drivers are currently battling it out for the first-place trophy: Kas Haverkort, who drives for Uniserver by Team GP Elite, is slightly ahead of Robert de Haan from the BWT Lechner Racing team. In the team standings, Schumacher CLRT has pulled away from the pursuing pack.
“This is only the fourth time that the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has held a race at Circuit Zandvoort. But with its electric atmosphere and the many avid fans, the track is undoubtedly one of the highlights on the calendar. This race is followed by our season finale in Monza. The title favourites will no doubt pull out all stops to secure an optimal position. I think the spectators are in for another thrilling race,” comments Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Flagship project in the Supercup: eFuels with partner HIF Global
2024 marks the first year of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup running exclusively on predominantly fully synthetic eFuels for the first time. The raw fuel comes from the Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile, which is operated by HIF Global. This raw fuel is readied for use through a process known as blending. The final product enables the 911 GT3 Cup cars to potentially run almost CO₂-neutrally. A second-generation bio-based, semi-synthetic fuel mixture has already been used in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in the previous three years. Together with HIF Global, Porsche’s top one-make cup is set on taking the next step.
Circuit Zandvoort
Opened in 1948, the Circuit Zandvoort became a regular fixture on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar until 1985. Only in 2021 did extensive modifications make it possible for the Dutch Grand Prix to return to the premier class of motor racing. Today’s 4.259-kilometre circuit features two banked corners, an unusual feature for a European track. Crests and dips make some turns difficult to see from the cockpit. Moreover, sand on the track can make the grip conditions unpredictable. The Circuit Zandvoort has hosted the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup since 2021.
Last season, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup held two races in Zandvoort in one weekend, with the Dutch fans celebrating the home victories of Morris Schuring (Fach Auto Tech) and Loek Hartog (Team GP Elite).
