Hans-Jürgen Urban, managing board member of IG Metall: “Politics thrives on controversial debates and binding commitments. It was promised many times to secure the pension level permanently: in the coalition agreement, by the leaders of the traffic light parties and in the federal cabinet. But the FDP doesn’t care about any of that. This is a debacle for the traffic lights and for politicians struggling for credibility. What the FDP is doing is a program to promote disillusionment with politics. And young people in particular are being done a disservice. If the FDP prevails and the promised protection of the pension level does not come about or if parts of the pension are linked to investment success on the stock markets, those who are pretending to want to protect are threatened with uncertain pensions in the future.
