Frankfurt am Main – With the start of warning strikes, IG Metall is calling on employers in the metal and electrical industries nationwide to make significant movements from Tuesday night. Christiane Benner, First Chairwoman of IG Metall: “The meager offer from employers ignores the seriousness of the situation. Our 3.9 million colleagues in the industry need more money. With the additional purchasing power, we also strengthen the economy. With warning strikes we are making it clear that movement forward is now needed: for young people too! We do not graduate without special consideration for young people. We want the future instead of restraint.”
In the regional collective bargaining negotiations that have been ongoing since mid-September, IG Metall is demanding 7 percent higher wages for employees over a period of 12 months. In addition, an “attractiveness boost” of 170 euros per month is intended to make trainees disproportionately better off. In contrast, the employers’ first offer was a wage increase of 1.7 percent for a period of 27 months from July 2025 and of 1.9 percent from July 2026.
IG Metall collective bargaining officer Nadine Boguslawski: “The employees are now giving their permanent price pressure at the checkout back to the employers through warning strikes: for a quick, substantive solution. Wage restraint doesn’t solve anything, it just exacerbates the country’s problems.” In addition to higher wages, IG Metall is also campaigning in the negotiations for better options between time and money, a social component and a “time of democracy” in the company.
At a rally on the night of October 29th, collective bargaining officer Nadine Boguslaswki at Volkswagen in Osnabrück (October 29th, 12:01 a.m., Karmannstrasse 1, 49084 Osnabrück) announced the warning strike phase.
Managing board member Hans-Jürgen Urban will support the employees’ walkout on Tuesday at Rolls Royce in Oberursel (9 a.m., Hohemarkstrasse 60-70, 61440 Oberursel/Taunus).
Together with several thousand trainees from all over Bavaria, IG Metall boss Christiane Benner will speak at a demonstration (10.30 a.m., Audi Ingolstadt, intersection of Tor 11/Ettinger Straße, 85057 Ingolstadt) and rally (Hindemithstraße parking lot) on Tuesday in Ingolstadt.
The third round of negotiations for the metal and electrical industry runs until November 5th.
