The company said its strategy to make half of its global deliveries electric by 2025 places it as a “powerful player” in China, which is the world’s leading market for electric cars.

The Government of China foresees that alternative energy vehicles represent 20% of the annual sales in the country for the year 2025, which will suppose, approximately, a volume of seven million units.

The president and CEO of the company, Hakan Samuelsson, stated that Volvo Cars last year showed its commitment to prepare for electrification, as a step beyond internal combustion.

At present, China is the first world market for Volvo and in this country the company experienced an increase of 23.3% in its registrations in the first quarter. Last year, the company exceeded for the first time the 100,000 units delivered in China in 2017.
