Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that in October 2024 it invested in LOGIQUEST INCORPORATED (“LOGIQUEST”), a company that operates a last mile delivery business, in order to expand business.

1. Background

The logistics industry in Japan is facing the challenges of driver shortages due to the overtime cap placed in 2024 and the need to reduce CO2 emissions. Amid this, last mile delivery, which plays a critical role as infrastructure as the final point of contact with end users, can contribute to solving these issues through optimal delivery using small mobility vehicles. In addition, due to the increasing demand for e-commerce (EC) and the trend toward smaller cargo packages, the market for last mile delivery is expected to continue to grow.

2. Future Development

LOGIQUEST provides a multi-delivery service in its last mile delivery business using light vehicles, motorbikes, and bicycles in collaboration with over 5,000 partner drivers. The large variety of products that the company handles includes pharmaceuticals such as vaccines, auto parts, and electronic parts.

By combining Toyota Tsusho’s logistics network, which is focused on the automotive industry, with LOGIQUEST’s delivery network, the two companies will work to optimize logistics across a wide range of industries, including the Economy of Life.* In the future, the two companies will also contribute to carbon neutrality by utilizing small EVs and vehicles using renewable energy such as hydrogen, which are highly compatible with the last mile area, and by utilizing logistics DX to optimize transportation routes and cargo loading.
