Madrid, December 2, 2024. Passenger car sales recorded a growth of 6.4% in November, with 83,339 new registrations. The market continues to increase, chaining an upward quarter driven this last month by an increase in all channels, particularly in rentals, and by booming sales of conventional hybrids. Until November, the market accumulates 911,503 sales, which represents an increase of 5.1% and if this pace is maintained in December it is possible that this year it will close around a million units.

Regarding sales of electrified passenger cars, they suffered a sharp decline compared to the same month last year, with a drop of 7.8% in sales and 10,664 units sold. This figure represents 12.8% of the total registrations for the month. With this month’s decline, the annual count stands at 100,802 units, 0.5% below the volumes recorded in the previous year and 11.06% of the total market.

The average CO2 emissions of passenger cars sold in November remain at 114.4 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled, 1.5% higher than the average emissions of new passenger cars sold in the same month of 2023. In total of the year, an average of 117.4 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled is recorded, remaining the same as a year ago.

Sales by channels all closed positively in November. The greatest increase is recorded in renters, who are stocking up for the end of the year, with an increase of 59.8% and 7,760 units. For their part, individuals registered a growth of 1.6%, with 41,429 sales, and companies improved 4.5%, with 41,429 units.

STATEMENTS

Félix García, director of communication and marketing at ANFAC, explained that “the market is advancing positively and is closing a new month growing. In the last quarter there has been an upward streak that allows us to be optimistic for a year-end of around one million units. We will have to wait how the last month of the year evolves and if we overcome the million barrier that has not been achieved since before the pandemic. Therefore, we must remind citizens that, currently, they still have funds in the MOVES plan and that they are valid until the end of this year to purchase electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. A significant fact that we trust will serve as a lever to boost a national market that improves compared to last year, but that remains far from the pace of 1.2 million that an economy like the Spanish one should aspire to.

Raúl Morales, communication director of FACONAUTO, indicated that “vehicle registrations in November have defied the usual trend that usually shows an improvement in the commercial activity of dealers as the end of the year approaches. This year, however, the market has remained stagnant, reflecting similar figures to last year. To a large extent, this situation is explained by the limited impact of the electrified vehicle on total registrations. Last month, vehicle rental companies slightly boosted the market, but other marketing channels, such as companies and individuals, did not show the dynamism of previous months.

As for the Valencian Community, and particularly in the province of Valencia, the behavior of the market deserves special mention. Although the month began with a significant drop in registrations compared to last year, the trend changed from the second fortnight, achieving figures higher than those recorded in the same period of the previous year. This rebound reflects the need for Valencians to recover their mobility, which translated into an increase in vehicle purchases in that part of the month.

It is important to highlight that this recovery will be driven by the aid plan recently implemented by the Government. The concessionaires are committed to supporting this plan to guarantee its success and contribute to the citizens of the Valencian Community being able to restore their mobility quickly and effectively.”

The communications director of GANVAM, Tania Puche, highlighted that “November manages to close positively, above all, due to the surge in purchases by rental companies that supply fleet to respond to the December long weekend and Christmas campaigns, in which are expected again to break record numbers of tourists. However, if we look at purchases from individuals, which are the ones that provide the most profitability to distributors, these indicate stagnant demand. In this sense, we trust that the recent launch of aid programs such as the Mueve Madrid Plan or the Auto Restart, the latter within the measures for those affected by DANA, will allow us to boost this particular demand and close the year to doors of the million registered units.”
