The first half of the Bundesliga season is finally over in mid-January. It’s hard to believe that the league leaders were once called the “autumn champions” after the first 17 match days. But no matter what he wants to be called: the winner of the first round is Bayern Munich. And in our Opel Post prediction game, “Svenno” is ahead after the first half of the season. We had already proclaimed him the “Winter King” before Christmas – the German copyright of this title, as we pointed out at the time, belongs to Cologne coach Gerhard Struber.
“Svenno” was already leading our competition before the turn of the year, just as Bayern were leading the Bundesliga. In this respect, this news was no longer particularly surprising. In contrast to some of the results of this 17th matchday, which took place during the week. Newly promoted Kiel beat Dortmund, the “Iron” from Berlin couldn’t get a leg up against Augsburg and Bremen had a lively exchange of blows with Heidenheim that ended 3:3 – that was too much for most of our tipsters. The 18th matchday was also tricky
Things continued straight away at the weekend. The most violent spectacle took place in the Ruhr area. Bochum secured a 3-3 draw against RB Leipzig after being 3-0 down. In terms of the table, this point doesn’t help much for VfL, who are in acute danger of relegation, but morally it could prove to be the most effective of all permitted stimulants. The Revier neighbors from Dortmund, on the other hand, also let the Frankfurt team get their hands on them. Augsburg also won in Bremen, and the “Irons” from Berlin ended their drought in results against the recently successful Mainz team. The bottom line is that both game days had plenty of strong stuff in store for our tipsters.
Even on the 18th matchday, only 18 points were enough to win the day. This time “Pupuranger” secured it, but without having to face a head-to-head finish. “Ralle_web” and “UPGT”, both of which scored 17 points, are fighting for places 2 and 3. “UPGT” is significantly better than “Ralle_web” in the overall ranking, so at least this jump-off is a clear matter.
And in the overall standings? The Winter King continues to rule. “Corsa” continues to follow him at a measured distance.
