Hyundai Mobis unveils movable sound system

Hyundai Mobis has developed a new movable sound system that is engineered to synchronise with the rollable display installed in the driver’s cockpit.

The movable sound system dynamically adjusts angles of its speakers based on the display configuration, ensuring clear, high-quality sound, the company says.

When the display is active, the speakers reposition themselves to reduce external sound interference and ensure “optimal quality”.

The 30-inch rollable display, which was introduced by the company two years ago, adapts to driving conditions to provide navigation information, music, and videos.

The latest movable sound system integrates with this display, altering speaker orientation depending on whether the vehicle is in motion or idle.

When the display is fully extended, the movable sound system angles the sound towards the windshield to avoid interference, allowing passengers to enjoy media in idle or autonomous modes.

However, when the display is reduced during driving, the speakers orient towards the driver, dynamically adjusting to the display’s size to deliver vivid sound quality.

In a press statement, Hyundai Mobis said: “Hyundai Mobis has developed this innovative display-synchronized movable sound system in the view that the latest vehicle display pursues features such as large screen, high resolution and slim design in differentiating automotive interior design.

“This innovation also reflects the confidence of Hyundai Mobis in its technological prowess in premium automotive display and sound systems.”

At the recent CES technology event in held US, Hyundai Mobis showcased a vehicle equipped with its holographic windshield transparent display, which projects information directly onto the windshield.

The company also displayed its original premium in-vehicle systems, such as rollable, swivel, and QL displays (quantum dot and local dimming displays).

Further expanding its global presence, Hyundai Mobis has partnered with Meridian, a British audio firm, to enter the premium sound system market and is pursuing global open innovation to secure unique in-vehicle sound technologies.

Last month, Hyundai Mobis unveiled an in-cabin monitoring system (ICM) to improve passenger safety by detecting ‘risky behaviours’.

Designed to monitor both front and rear seat occupants, the system aims to reduce accidents by alerting drivers and passengers to potential safety risks.
