What is a moped for Detran?
What is moped for Detran: It is a two or three -wheeled motor vehicle and four -time engine up to 50 cm³ and power of up to 50 displacement, whose top speed (from factory) does not exceed 50 km/h thanks to capacity engine cubic and therefore are called fifty.
From 2016 the cyclomotor vehicles began to be licensed and for this, the National Registry of Motor Vehicles (Renavam) was required. This process caused the fifty drivers to have to run within the law and with the same documentation as a motorcycle. Therefore the ACC qualification.
The driver caught driving a moped without regularized documentation can be charged by the traffic agent. Therefore, when piloting a fifty, it is important to follow the determinations of the CTB. Articles 54 and 55 guide:
Wear security helmet with visor or appropriate goggles;
Hold the handle with both hands to maintain balance
Wear appropriate clothing according to the rules established by Contran
And safety is also valid for moped vehicle passengers, who need to be wearing a helmet and dressed properly. The only difference to the pilot is the need for documentation and the difference between accents.
ACC, what is it?
ACC is the specific qualification for driving a moped. Its main difference to CNH is that the driver’s license allows larger vehicles to drive, including cars, motorcycles and trucks, according to the categories determined by Detran.
Understand more about the document in our post ACC Qualification: What is it, what it is for and more.
Who has CNH can drive moped?
Those who have CNH in category A can drive moped and any other motorcycle. However, those who have CNH in other categories can only drive a cyclomotor vehicle if the ACC license added to the document.
For example, the driver enabled in category B may combine with ACC and drive a fifty, but cannot do so if not also enabled in ACC.
Therefore, to drive a moped, the driver needs:
Be over 18;
Be enabled in category A and/or ACC;
Be a registered and licensed driver;
Drive with safety helmet.
How do I get ACC?
To achieve ACC qualification simply fulfill the same procedure required to get CNH in categories A, B and AB, that is, perform the conductor formation process determined by the Detran of its state. Usually works as follows:
Psychological assessment
Physical and Mental Fitness Examinations
Theoretical and Practice Classes at the Driver Training Center (CFC)
Theoretical examination
Practical examination
Specifications such as class period and times may vary according to Detran, as each organ can make its rules based on the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB).

What are the cyclomotor vehicles?
Scooters and electric bicycles (with engines up to 4kW and top speed of 50 km/h are considered and the fifties with 50 cm³ are Resolution No. 996 of the National Traffic Council (Contran).
The resolution also explains what is moped, determining that they are two or three -wheeled vehicles, equipped with an internal combustion engine with up to 50 cm³ of displacement, equivalent to 3.05 inches.
If the moped vehicle is electric, its maximum power should be 4 kW (4,000 W) and maximum speed of 50 km/h from factory.
Self -propelled equipment is used for individual mobility, such as: overboards, scooters, electric and similar bikes, which reach a top speed of 32 km/h are not considered mopeds.
What is the difference between motorcycle and moped?
The difference between motorcycle and moped is that motorcycles and motorcycles are considered vehicles of only two wheels, with or without sidecar (single wheel device attached to the rear of the motorcycle). In addition, there is no speed limit from factory, has greater engine power and driving position is always sitting on the vehicle.
This is a model of sidecar, moped with device of a coupled wheel.
Cyclomor vehicles can have two or three wheels, and as we have already specified above, 50 cm³ engines, with speed limit of up to 50 km/h.
Another difference is that according to the Article 57 of the CTB, mopeds should be driven by the right track, preferably in the center of the track. When the track is exclusive to other vehicles, such as bus, for example, mopeds should be directed to the adjacent (next) track on the right.
Since the maximum speed of cyclomotor vehicles is 50 km/h, they cannot travel roads that exceed this limit and therefore its circulation in fast transit is prohibited.
