Employees in car dealerships and car workshops demand 6.5 percent more money

Frankfurt am Main-For strengthening purchasing power and securing skilled workers, IG Metall demands 6.5 percent more money for employees in the car workshops and car dealerships. Trainees should receive more disproportionately higher remuneration at 170 euros. The IG Metall board decided on this demand for the term of a year on Monday evening in Frankfurt. In addition, the union expects employers solutions for the special burden on the employees.

Nadine Boguslawski, IG Metall tariff, says: “The industry is doing well overall-despite the poor model policy of the manufacturers with a view to expanding electromobility. The employees in the car dealerships are currently selling many used cars in particular. In the workshops, customers have to wait a long time for an appointment due to the high occupancy and shortage of skilled workers. Many employees work on the attack. That is why there is now an urgent time for relief: in the wallet and working hours. ”

Survey: emigration due to low appreciation and high working pressure

According to a survey of IG Metall, 70 percent of the companies under 12,000 employees rate the economic situation of the companies as good (50 %) to very good (20 %). At the same time, the burdens of the employees are very high: more than half (54 %) observed that colleagues are currently increasingly leaving the companies – primarily because of low appreciation and high working pressure.

Sebastian Ferrsterra, head of department at IG Metall board, emphasizes the value of collective agreements: “The car craft is a future industry. Employers now have to go full throttle and bind their specialists with better working conditions and advertise new ones. ”

A total of 430,000 employees work in the vehicle trade. 91,000 benefit directly from a collective agreement from IG Metall. The current collective agreement applies until March 31, 2025, which also ends the obligation to peace. This enables warning strikes from April 1st.

The collective bargaining is led regionally by the districts of IG Metall. The first round of negotiations starts on March 18.
