Frankfurt am Main – After the Bundestag election, IG Metall is pushing for quick government formation. From the union’s point of view, there is a high time pressure in order to give employees and the economy, especially industry, a clear perspective for the next few months. Constructive and goal -oriented explorations and coalition negotiations are a crucial prerequisite for this.
Christiane Benner, first chair of IG Metall, emphasizes the urgency: “We no longer have time. Industry and the employees cannot wait months for clear perspectives. You now need concrete promises as soon as possible. There can only be confidence if the democratic parties are now devoted to coalition negotiations and government formation. “
From the point of view of IG Metall, particularly competitive energy costs, the ride of electromobility and comprehensive investments in education, streets, rails and digitization must be the focus of the project of a new federal government.
Christiane Benner: “Many industrial companies, especially the energy -intensive industries and in the supply industry, stand up to the neck. The employees see this threat to their workplace and thus also their life plans, their families and the regions in which they live. This uncertainty must be counteracted by targeted measures and programs, such as capped electricity prices for industry and consumers and a stabilization of the automotive sector, also through buying incentives and promoting battery technology. We can do that. Germany can write growth history again. However, an active state is necessary to design the changes. From the union’s point of view, high investments in the infrastructure are indispensable. A federal investment package over ten years with a volume of at least 600 billion euros for investments in public infrastructures plus additional public support services for the decarbonization of industry in the amount of approximately 30 billion euros in the next five years will be a minimum requirement.
The first chairwoman of the union emphasized the big task that is now in front of a new government: “The elected politicians have gained huge responsibility, trust of people back into politics. And create confidence in the future. To show that our democracy is the better answer. This also includes respect and respect for the voice of the employees. Fair change only goes together. A fresh start is also the chance to show what Germany and Europe can do. ”
