Employees of the textile and clothing industry move into warning strikes

Ingolstadt/Frankfurt am Main- After an employer offer well below the inflation rate, IG Metall warning strikes announced in the West German textile and clothing industry. From March 1st, it wants to call up employees at textile automotive suppliers, traditional textile manufacturers, hygiene and medical producers as well as technical textile manufacturers for actions. A total of 100,000 employees work in the industry.

With at least 200 euros and 6.5 % more money, IG Metall calls for real wage protection for employees. Better part -time regulations should make companies more attractive and a trade union bonus should make collective bargaining more sustainable.

In the 2nd collective bargaining in Ingolstadt, employers, on the other hand, demanded a real wage minus on Tuesday: after that, the employees should only receive 1.3 percent more money from the end of this year, 1.7 percent a year later. For 2025 and 2026 alone, the business institutes expect an inflation rate of 2 percent.

Completely ignored the burdens of the employees

Negotiator Miriam Bürger: “The budget of the textile and clothing employees is not only sewn on edge, but has large holes. Inflation pressed the current real wages of the employees below the 2010 level. Our colleagues are extremely burdened financially and in terms of health. The employers completely ignore this with their offer. Warning strikes are inevitable. We now make it clear: our patience is extremely thin. “

In addition to higher fees, IG Metall is calling for better working conditions in the industry with a partial part -time partial retirement. Citizens: “We need specialists and workers and perspectives instead of stress. Many older people are totally exhausted and go on the number meat. ” Employers have not offered a continuation of partial retirement for burdened employees.

Before the 2nd collective bargaining in Ingolstadt, over 300 employees demonstrated in a campaign for IG Metall’s demands and handed over several thousand signatures to the employers.

Peace obligation ends in the industry on Friday, and IG Metall announced the first warning strikes for the night of Saturday. The 3rd collective bargaining has agreed IG Metall and employer for March 12, 2025 in Ostbevern (NRW).
