The “auditions” for the after Tavares go on, but in the meantime Stellantis records decreasing numbers, as it was easy to predict after the production difficulties and the stops that have affected the plants, Mirafiori in the first place. Here is what emerges from the presentation of the 2024 accounts of the group born from the merger between FCA and PSA. And the unions do not sleep peacefully. 

Excellent candidates

“We have excellent candidates, both internal and external and the talks we are having encouraged us on the perspective of finding a height of CEO”, says the president of Stellantis John Elkann. “The announcement on the decision will come by the end of the first half of the semester”. But the ideas are clear, on the profile sought: “We need a leader who has knowledge in the field of capital, technology but also of the ability to work together with all stakeholders”.

“Investments and not closures”

If the numbers, however, sanction a moment of difficulty, the unions know well that there is a need for recipes, as well as time. As the general secretary of the Fim Cisl, Ferdinand Uliano, explains, from a situation of “strong decline we only come out with new investments and new models”, reaffirming the opposition to any “closures of plants or cuts of brands“.

And the reference cannot fail to involve Mirafiori: “In the last meetings with Stellantis we had answers regarding the production launch of productions such as those provided for the Mirafiori plant with the 500 hybrid and the assignment of the ‘Small platform’ for the Pomigliano plant and the assignment of hybrid engines alongside the electric ones in all the factories for the new models”, says Uliano, who continues: ” Next March in the ministerial seat we will reiterate with force and determination our opposition to the closing of plants or unilateral employment reduction (…).

The 500 hybrid does not cancel the layoffs

Mirafiori in the thoughts of Samuele Lodi, National Secretary of Fiom Cgil and Mobility Sector Manager: “The 500 hybrid in Mirafiori will not be enough to eliminate the use of the layoffs. There is a need for an industrial plan on which to confront that it goes beyond the announcements made on December 17th last. For this it is necessary that Stellantis quickly decides who will be the next CEO (…) The Stellantis problem is of the wrong strategies. To lose market shares in Italy and Europe “. 

Bad results and repercussions on prizes

The Uilm is also very critical, with the general secretary Rocco Palombella and the head of the car sector, as well as national secretary, Gianluca Ficco: “The disastrous results of Stellantis demonstrate that the road taken requires rapid correction, since the idea of ​​focusing exclusively and hastily on the electric has proved bankruptcy. We must reverse the current dynamic that is reducing production to the minimum terms and almost completely stopping some plants “.” The bad balance sheet results – they conclude – will inevitably affect the annual result prize, but we ask Stellandis to provide in any case a sum who repays the workers of their sacrifices and their efforts “.
