GX to Provide Bloomberg Terminal Users with Access to over 200 Voluntary Carbon Price Indexes
LONDON, Feb. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Bloomberg and General Index (GX), the data-led benchmark provider, announced today the expansion of their strategic collaboration which builds on the existing commodities market information available on the Bloomberg Terminal through solutions like Commodity Spot Prices {SPOT<GO>}. All Bloomberg Terminal customers can now access more than 200 voluntary carbon price assessments based on GX’s methodology.
The expanded dataset contains transparent carbon credit ‘price baskets’ that provide pricing insight into voluntary carbon markets (VCM). The range of assessments includes 69 spot prices along with 133 spread and rolling average price indexes that provide detailed granularity into some of the most liquid markets and geographies. The benchmarks are calculated by aggregating VCM trade input data. The information is then sorted by risk ratings based on BeZero Carbon assessments, as well as by scheme, technology, vintage and location. This calculation of the GX voluntary carbon benchmarks helps give market participants pricing oversight for the whole sector.
Emilie Gallagher, Global Head of Commodities, FX and Macroeconomics at Bloomberg, said: “Increased volatility due to macro and geopolitical events will continue to drive investor demand for commodities price transparency and market intelligence particularly focused on evolving markets like voluntary carbon. Bloomberg has been covering carbon markets for over a decade and we’re very pleased to continue our strategic collaboration with General Index to provide Bloomberg Terminal customers with access to voluntary carbon market information.”
The GX-powered {SPOT <GO>} data reflects both evolving trading patterns and well-established commodity pricing points offering market participants a transparent data solution for their commodities exposure. In addition to the price assessments on the Bloomberg Terminal, customers can access GX data for enterprise use via Bloomberg Data License and Bloomberg’s real-time market data feed, B-PIPE.
Diane Charnock, Vice President Corporate Development at General Index, said: “At General Index, we are committed to bringing greater transparency and accessibility to emerging commodity markets. By expanding our strategic collaboration with Bloomberg, we are ensuring that market participants have access to high-quality, data-led price assessments that provide insights into this evolving space. With over 200 voluntary carbon price indexes now available on the Bloomberg Terminal, users can navigate these markets with confidence and precision.”
