HOUSTON, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — King Felipe VI of Spain Bestows the Country’s Highest Civilian Award on Robert (Bob) Unanue, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, and founder of GOYA Cares.
At a ceremony on March 20, 2025, Spanish Ambassador to the US, Ángeles Moreno Bau presented Mr. Unanue with the “Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic” Award, Medallion and title of “Commander.” The Order was created in 1815 by King Ferdinand VII in honour of Queen Isabel I and is open to both Spaniards and foreigners with the intent of “rewarding the firm allegiance to Spain and the merits of Spanish citizens and foreigners in good standing with the Nation.”
In the words of the Ambassador, “The shared history of more than five hundred years between Spain and the United States has given rise to a community of democratic values that is the core of our relationship. Our joint commitment to democracy, the rule of law and a rules-based international order is especially necessary in a world that is facing so many challenges.”
