Report dives deep into consumer snacking trends, brand and category sales numbers

Some of the key findings include:

  1. Market Growth: The snack food industry’s sales increased 4.8% over the past year, reaching $156 billion.
  2. Health-Conscious Snacking: Sales of snacks labeled as “low-sodium” and “organic” have increased 12%, indicating a shift towards healthier options.
  3. Flavor Preferences: Spicy and globally inspired flavors, like sriracha and harissa, have experienced a 15% rise in consumer popularity.
  4. Snack Timing: Afternoon snacking has become more prevalent, with 35% of consumers indicating they snack between 2 and 5 PM.
  5. Portion Control: Sales of single-serve snack packages have grown by 10%, indicating a consumer emphasis on portion control and convenience.

Category-specific data highlights the scale of several key segments within the broader snacking universe: cookies reached $11.8 billion in sales, crackers generated $9.5 billion, and potato chips accounted for $8.8 billion.
